I think it's legit to have a single thread for the rather unexpected pop-culture juggernaut that is Weird Al Yankovic's latest, yes? Tacky (featuring Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black) Word Crimes (making something less skeevy out of Blurred Lines) Foil ("Royals" plus Patton Oswalt, reptoids and the Illuminati) Handy (Iggy Azalea eat your heart out) Sports Song (fun original track) Pretty fun to watch one of Canada's national treasures (EDIT: he isn't from Canada, I'm told, but we sure do treasure him) dominate the media environment so beautifully. I'll keep updating with links to the continued video onslaught. What are your faves?
Yes, but is it legit to have two? But yes, the way Al is getting his stuff out there rapid fire like that is genius. He was kind of getting there before with the idea of making cheap (yet very well-made) videos for everything out on YouTube, but he cranked it up a notch and the strategy is clearly working very well. Also: Tacky (Live on Conan) And isn't Al from California? Ya know, Straight Outta Lynwood?
California, Canada... they both start with a C. Close enough. Didn't mean to duplicate threads, though.
Yahoo's blocking "Handy"! "Word Crimes" is a masterpiece. But if this is open for any Weird Al song, I'm still not fully recovered from "Weenie in a Bottle". I laughed for literally over 30 minutes straight when I first heard that song, and had to lie in bed afterwards for the rest of the day to recover.
http://weirdal.wikia.com/wiki/Weenie_in_a_Bottle Not a Weird Al song. But to be fair, for some reason people happily mislabel just about any parody song as Weird Al, I've been tricked before.
Mea culpa. You know, I actually double-checked on Google before posting, and stopped searching when I saw that the number one hit is a video labeled "Weird Al Yankovic - Weenie In A Bottle w/ lyrics - YouTube". Apologies.
Mandatory Fun is great. I haven't watched any of the music videos, but knowing Weird Al they're probably great. I think the Polka is my favorite song off the CD, although I like basically all the songs, even though I haven't heard the songs several of them are parodying.
Weird Al is amazing, and the thought he puts into his songs is quite remarkable. I had a small laugh at the way "Foil" twists at the line "cracked the code" because when I was watching the "Royals" video with my son for the 10,000th time I started randomly musing about what would happen if Llorde was referring to some government conspiracy. I guess Weird Al picked up on that line. My son is terrified of Weird Al so I can't watch his videos when my son is awake.
He's also a talented mimic --listen to his Bob Dylan impersonation on "Bob" or the way he pushes his voice up into the tenor range to imitate James Blunt on "You're Pitiful."
Refused to work for me in Chrome. It does seem to load up in Internet Explorer, though. You know something's horribly wrong when that's the case!
Yea I love that song . I let my mom listen to 'Bob' and she thought he did a really good job on it and sounded just like him.
