Are you that surprised? I could tell you that the guy to girl ratio in my major (aerospace engineering) is almost 9 to 1.

Among the professors there is only one woman and about 30+ men.

I don't think the ratio is that bad here, really. As for it being hard to find female trekkies in RL ... I'm something of a closet trekkie myself. The boyfriend of a friend just found out I'm into Trek and didn't believe I was serious until several minutes of convincing.
