Malaysian Airliner Shot Down Over Ukraine

European countries rely on Russia for energy supply. I don't think there's going to be a war. Even the Obama administration has been criticized as being too lax on Russia, and political leaders are calling for the U.S. to pressure Putin to take action and responsibility.

Those will only defend against the smaller man-portable heat seekers. The large radar guided missile that brought down the airliner would require some large and very expensive jammers. Also radar warning receivers and chaff dispensers. Oh, and an additional crew member to monitor and run it all. Not very practical.

According to one article, the technology is worth a try, but it would be more practical not to fly over war zones in the first place.

Saw on The Daily Show that Malaysia Airlines' London-Kuala Lumpur flights will no longer fly over Ukraine.

They will now fly over Syria.

I never had realized how dangerous some of these commercial airline flight paths are until now.
