Magnum P.I. continuation with Lily “Tommy” Magnum

^ I can remember lines of dialogue from Magnum, PI but can't remember the license plate number on my own car.
 
^ I can remember Jim Rockford's license plate number as well as my own!

Speaking of, has anyone caught Selleck's commercial voice-over (reverse mortgages?) that begins "I know what you're thinking..."?
 
^I personally prefer the orange juice commercials with his voice-over. Good GOD, that man has a great voice. *swoon*
 
He's got a great voice but I was surprised they slipped a Magnum catchphrase in there. I keep forgetting people my age are now the target of ads I used to feel were for "old people!"
 
There's a lot of that going around. 35 years since Raiders. 20 years since First Contact... The 80s being "hip" again... It's crazy.

The capper, however, has to be the other night when I was listening to a terrestrial radio station here and the Smashing Pumpkins were playing. I noticed that display screen showing what station and song were playing also said "OLDIES" as a description. OMG... I don't want to live in a world where the Smashing Pumpkins are considered oldies... Not that I'm even that big a fan.. But still.
 
Watching the Lethal Weapon TV show tonight and it occurs to me that the actor playing Riggs (Clayne Crawford) would be perfect as Magnum if they decided to do a straight up reboot.
 
If you can't at least act, most people won't care about the show or the character--imo, anyway.
 
Yes; he doesn't appeal to me in any way. The show just falls flat. But, as I said, your mileage may vary.

Like it or not (and I don't like it either), they are now oldies for people who don't like current pop music or are too lazy to find NEW rock music just like the rock of the '90's. And many major cites in North America have local scene with great bands, plus there's independent media in most cities (The Village Voice & L.A. Weekly) that can give you the lowdown on what's happening in soundsville now instead of 12 years ago or 40 years ago, but the listeners of said stations are acting just like their baby boomer parents did back in the '80's.
 
Regardless of who is listening to them - of course they are an old time band, they formed in 1988. They are the same now as if it was 1988 and they formed in 1958.
