MadMan's Wallpaper Thread (Wide Image Warning)

Hello, everyone...

I thought I would start a thread just for my wallpapers, so they are easy to find.

The first two tonight are from a video that is currently in the render farm, of the Enterprise flying to help out the Saladin, which has been damaged in the middle of an asteroid field.

These were rendered completely in Blender, with only minor brightness/contrast adjustments in Photoshop.

I think I am getting the hang of more "Natural" lighting, and I can get these Nebulae to turn out ok.

You must have learned some new lighting tricks. Your work is getting more and more realistic. :techman:

Thanks. :)

I am starting to render everything in Blender, with minimal compositing in Photoshop. It definitely fixes the problems I had with shadows and stuff.

Mad, how are you doing your fill lighting? Are you using a skylight or some form of Ambient Occlusion? Standard three point lighting?

I use 3 point lighting myself. Here is a set up I used on Tobias' Kelvin. Might give you some ideas. :)

That looks very good. :)

It depends on the picture... I've used 1 point lighting, (since we're in space), One point with ambient occlusion, and the normal 3 point kind of thing. Blender doesn't have the best lighting options, from what I understand.

Something I put together, kind of quickly, in honor of the BSG finale tonight...

I know some folks were hoping this is what would happen at the end of the show. :)

Awesome, as always, Rick. Still waiting for some sketchbook scans. :)
How are you doing your backgrounds/spacescapes? Those are Very Nice.

Wonderful work.

I'm still not confident about those sketchbook scans. They probably only make sense to me, and it makes me look like I talk to myself. :)

I have started rendering the backgrounds in Blender, instead of doing a composite later. I make the Nebula, or Gas Cloud, as a texture in Photoshop. I then stick it on a plane, in Blender, and move it around until it gets to a spot that I like. I set it slightly transparent, so the stars show through, and then I'm done. :) It looks pretty good in the animation sequences, too.

Hmm... I like the shot, but the deflector dish is a bit... meh. I don't like the blue glow around the edge of it...

It does seem to stand out more in this particular image, for some reason.

It's always been that way, though. The two things that I want to re-visit and model over are the dish, and the vents on the outside of the pylons.

Saw the new poster today... so I made this...

I wish they would quit cutting parts of the ship off. It's like they don't want the whole thing visible. :)

I agree. And I honestly like yours a bit more. It seems less flat.

I'd like to see yours with gold deflector and red nacelle caps at some point. ;)

I have the textures for it... and I tried it out. I didn't think it looked good enough to put out. :) The Red really doesn't look right, any more.
