Mad Max: Fury Road

That's good to hear. I've found it difficult to judge the trailers because they reveal so little of the story, and I think that's a key element.

I think the story will be pretty think when it comes to the dialogue at least. I have to say what I have seen so far I like very much.

I doubt there's anything more than a coincidental connection but it's ironic to think of this having a feminist slant considering the nature of Mel Gibson's scandals.

Kinda ashamed to admit I've never seen the original movies (well I tried watching the first one recently but it was so slow and bizarre I couldn't get through it). But the trailer for this one looks so mindblowingly cool and the reviews are so good (still at 99% on RT?!? Seriously?) that I'll just have to go see it.

The first one was a extemely low budget and just bearly a sci-fi movie. The nxt two however were awesome action movies. It's kind of cool that Miller got Hugh Keays-Bryne to play the villain again.

Men’s Rights Activists Call for Boycott of Mad Max

If a movie’s depiction of women is upsetting to Men’s Rights Activists, then said movie is probably awesome. A+ performance, Charlize Theron. Dudes are literally terrified that you’ll act them all into becoming feminists.

In a post on the blog Return of Kings, Aaron Clarey is calling for men to boycott the new Mad Max movie:

Not only REFUSE to see the movie, but spread the word to as many men as possible. … Because if [men] sheepishly attend and Fury Road is a blockbuster, then you, me, and all the other men (and real women) in the world will never be able to see a real action movie ever again that doesn’t contain some damn political lecture or moray about feminism, SJW-ing, and socialism.

[…] men in America and around the world are going to be duped by explosions, fire tornadoes, and desert raiders into seeing what is guaranteed to be nothing more than feminist propaganda, while at the same time being insulted AND tricked into viewing a piece of American culture ruined and rewritten right in front of their very eyes.

Fire Tornadoes! Explosions! Mis-sandry! A Return of Kings commenter explains,

Hollywood is a garbage propoganda machine which spews out this feminist drivel filth into the minds of today’s young audience. Even though science has told us and proven, that men are physically stronger than women, it is nonetheless discarded by the forces driving this feminist nonsense.

There is a sick agenda at play here, and it only continues to get worse over time. First this, and now the upcoming Terminator Genisys which shows Sarah Connor in a more heroic and superior position to that of Kyle Reese, really makes me wonder how much further down the toilet society is going to go down, in it’s ridiculous attempts to try and reverse the traditional gender and biological roles.

Honestly, these dudes have way bigger expectations for the feminism of Terminator Genisys than I do!

I strongly advise against going down the rabbit hole of the Return of the Kings comment section (strange how quickly unintentional hilarity can shift into intentional threats), but in all seriousness I think it’s important to note the gravity that MRAs are giving Mad Max. Though you may recall us telling you about Vagina Monologues creator Eve Ensler acting as a consultant on set of the film (the MRAs aren’t thrilled about that particular bit either).

Misogynists might be the first people to dismiss complaints about representation with time-honored comments like “she’s ‘just’ a character” or “it’s ‘just’ a movie/book/video game,” but by admitting they’re threatened by Charlize Theron and Emilia Clarke’s bad-assery, Clarey and his commenters are also agreeing that the media we consume and the stories we tell are hugely important.

Thanks for the movie recommendations, bros.

Really? Oh dear.

Well at least we can be reasonably confident that these idiots are just another vocal, deeply insecure minority. I'd be astonished if it even makes a dent in the box office. Probably the opposite since I image there are more people who will read this and go see the movie to spite them than those that may be swayed by it.

Personally, I couldn't care less even *if* the movie was prejudiced against men, given the way some women were portrayed in the old Mad Max movies I'd say a little turnabout is fair play. ;)

Just got back from seeing it.

ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!!

It kicks you in the balls, tells you to "toughen up princess" and then drags you by the hair for two hours.

Loved EVERY second of it!!!

Just some random thoughts;

There's a scene where we see two "creatures" shambling in silhouette across the frame - reminded me of something we'd see from the Dark Crystal. No explanation of what the hell we just saw or what they're doing. They're just THERE.

FUCKING COOL!!!!!

There are INSTANTLY iconic images in this film that will be referenced and talked about and copied for DECADES to come. I mean, why the hell shouldn't a truck explode and an electric guitar come flying at the audience?

I was taken back to the original "Dune" movie a few times where things happen, technology is seen being used and guess what? Not ONE SOLITARY SECOND of technobabble. It is what it is - if you can't deal with it or if you don't like it, THERE'S the door - GET OUT!

This film is unapologetic and the perfect antidote to by the numbers (Northern) Summer blockbusters. It's raw, dirty, weird, cool and not every single person has to explain their actions every second of the film. The good thing is, there's going to be MORE THAN ENOUGH for the mundanes to froth over, while for more deeper types, there's a mountain of meat and subtext to chew on. A good example is Max raising his hand to shield his face at a CRUCIAL moment. It's NOT by concidence.

FUCK I LOVED THIS FILM!!!!!!!

It'll be have no more impact than the White supremacists who were mad about Idris in "Thor".

You're not the only one. My friends and I will be going to see the new one tomorrow. Our local cinema were showing the originals during this week though I didn't get chance to go.

All you really need to know is Max's wife and daughter were previously killed and he's a former cop, policing the roads.

Now he's a mercenary.

Now go and enjoy the HELL out of this movie!!!

It was O R E S O M E !!! One giant car chase in the desert. The scenery was breathtaking and I absolutely loved the World Building of this movie!
I need to rewatch it!
Someone on FB complained that it was a long heavy metal clip. I replied "So what did you expect? A Tina Turner video clip?"

Over the last couple weeks I found that Hugh Keays-Byrne, the actor who plays Immortan Joe, was both the main villain, Toecutter, in the original Mad Max, and Grunchlk in Farscape.

Definitely a movie I'll want to watch a second time on disc with subtitles turned on. Damn incomprehensible 'stralian gibberspeak!

Obviously better than Mad Max and Beyond Thunderdome, but Road Warrior, hmm, jury's still out on that one. But yeah, the chase sequences were awesome. :techman:
