MACHETE - New trailer released just for Arizona!

Yeah buddy! Machete and The Expendables in the same year! 2010 is a great time to be an action fan.

Robert Rodriguez is a government operative? Damn...now I wish I had gone back for the second day of the Fangoria con a couple of years ago, gotten his autograph..

LOL, this will go down in history as the first movie in which Steven Seagal is actually hurt or even killed in a fight scene.

And white people are the racists?

White people are ALWAYS the racists.

Didn't you get the email?!?

Oh and PS - can somebody inform a foreigner - what's the deal with Arizona? Why was the preview aimed at them?

Arizona recently passed a law that allows police officers, during legal contact, to ask people to prove their citizenship -providing the police have "reasonable suspicion" the person they're encountering is an illegal. It's a thinly veiled attempt at racism to ask Hispanics for "their papers" a'la Nazi Germany as anyone with to neurons to rub together knows they're not going to be asking Candians to prove their citzenship. So much of critical thinking parts of America's humanity has been calling out Arizona on this bullshit law that pretty much says people have to "prove" they live here or suffer jail time (in complete defiance of the founding principles of this nation) and is profiling people of a certain nationality. (Something else we should be well above and beyond.) All of that isn't entirely here or there, further discussion on it should be made in related TNZ threads.

This trailer looks like a fun movie. :)

Arizona recently passed a law allowing police officers to enforce laws the federal government is ignoring, identifying and removing people in the country illegally. Arizona is on the border of Mexico and thousands of them sneak into our country under a fence in the middle of the night. Illegal immigrants are a HUGE problem for Arizona, bringing Mexico's drug wars, gangs, kidnappings and murder along with them. Bleeding heart liberals feel we should embrace all these criminals, throw open our borders, and make them all citizens. Which of course would be a slap in the face to everyone who has ever come here legally. It's not about race, it's about knowing your enemy. There are not any drug cartels from Canada in Arizona.

And yeah, it looks like a fun movie, kill all the white people and hack them to bits with a huge blade. It'll be the feel good film of the year. A message that will finally bring people together in the spirit of peace and harmony. Let's all sing Kumbyah.

Hyperbole is fun.

Bleeding heart liberals don't think we should "embrace" these criminals. We do, however think that you shouldn't look at someone who's got brown skin and "speaks kinda funny"/doesn't speak English should be enough reason to ask someone for their papers. We live in a country where we value indvidual freedoms above all else and want to apply laws to everyone evenly. Saying police can just "decide" someone looks illegal and then ask them to prove they're legal (and tell me, can you even prove to a police officer you're legal) is wrong.

Enforce imigration laws all you want, stop people crossing the boarder illegaly all you want. Throw illegals back over the boarder all you want. But don't profile an entire race of people simply 'cause "'dem furners don't belon' 'ere."

My wife and mother in law are both "furners". Both came here legally and are required by federal law to carry their "papers" with them at all times. All Arizona is trying to do is protect itself. If your enemy is of one race, than you must look for that race. It's that simple.

If anyone is guilty of hyperbole it's people who compare this law to Nazi Germany.

Indeed! :techman: :)

The new law clearly states, if you care to read it, that the police determine the citizenship status of the person in question pursuant to the enforcement of another law or before that person is released from custody on another charge. In other words, you can not be pulled over or arrested for being "brown".

If you can provide to the Arizona police an Arizona driver's license, nondriver identification card, tribal ID, or any valid US local, State, or Federal ID you are presumed not to be an illegal and no citizenship check is required, since all of these documents require proof of citizenship to acquire.

If you are a legal alien, a valid foreign driver's license permits you to drive in the US. Additionally, all legal aliens are already required by federal law to carry identification with them at all times and present that identification if requested by a law enforcement officer.

If this documentation is not in order, a check with ICE through NLETS will quickly sort out whether you are legal and just in violation of the law for not having the proper documentation with you or whether you are not a legal registered alien. The check takes between 20 minutes and two hours when done at the airport depending on what documentation you have available and what identifying information you can provide. I can't imagine it taking much longer for the police. It's a pretty simple phone call.

If you are an illegal alien, you are either going to have forged documentation saying you are a legal alien or no documentation at all. Claiming to be a US citizen when you are not and being found out is an automatic bar from ever becoming a US citizen in the future. So most illegals do not claim such when confronted by law enforcement. If you are illegal and detained by Arizona law enforcement, you will no longer be let go because the standing unwritten rule is not to bother pursuing the matter.

The end result of this law, which is simply requiring Arizona law enforcement enforce already existing federal law previous Arizona governments have chosen not to enforce, is that...

... US citizens in Arizona now have to carry some form of ID or may be inconvenienced while their citizenship is confirmed ...
... legal aliens have to continue to carry proper ID ...
... illegal aliens are going to be arrested and handed over to ICE for deportation.

But yeah, let's make a movie about heroic brown people sneaking into the country illegally and chopping up the evil white people that try to stop them with machetes. I know I find that hilarious and in no way offensive. Being white, I can not, of course, take offense at anything done by a person "of color" without that offense being racist. I understand this. And I fully support the film maker's right to make just such a movie.

Then again, were the same movie made with the roles of hero and villain reversed, a riot would erupt over night in protest and the studio would be burned to the ground. I understand this. Just sayin'.
