Mac OS X Lion released, new Macbook Airs, White Macbooks discontinued

Re: Mac OS X Lion released, new Macbook Airs, White Macbooks discontin

We just bought a MacBook. Pretty sure it's the other OS. Don't really care. Should I?

It's $30 and that one price lets you download it on both your Macs.

$15 for a computer OS upgrade? Compared to Windows that's pretty much free.

So Apple incorporated version control directly into the OS, huh? Anyone know if they licensed technology from someone (CVS, Accurev, etc) or just built their own?

Just installed it. Nothing major so far, good or bad.

The added gestures are nothing new since I use BetterTouchTool. I have all of the apps I want in the Dock so the LaunchPad is useless. Mission Control is just a merger of Spaces and Expose, which is nice since I use both. We'll see how the saving and restoring features pan out once I work on a doc.

Battery firmware security flaw found in Lion:

http://www.macrumors.com/2011/07/22...-but-battery-firmware-vulnerability-surfaces/

The batteries' chips are shipped with default passwords, such that anyone who discovers that password and learns to control the chips' firmware can potentially hijack them to do anything the hacker wants. That includes permanently ruining batteries at will, and may enable nastier tricks like implanting them with hidden malware that infects the computer no matter how many times software is reinstalled or even potentially causing the batteries to heat up, catch fire or explode. "These batteries just aren't designed with the idea that people will mess with them," Miller says. "What I'm showing is that it's possible to use them to do something really bad."

Actually no, that isn't a flaw in Lion. That's a flaw in the firmware on the battery controllers built into Apple's laptops. In fact, according to the person who discovered this vulnerability, it's existed since at least 2009. Apple can probably fix it but it would be in a firmware patch, not an OS patch.

I upgraded last night. Not dramatically dissimilar. My Razer mouse is having a few issues (scroll up is down and scroll down is up!!).. but no major issues so far.

That's not a bug, it's a feature (really!). You can change it in the mouse settings.

Ah. I did wonder if that's what 'natural scrolling' referred to. Thanks! Maybe I'll turn it back on if I get a touchpad.

I'm still running Leopard on my 17-inch MacBook Pro (circa spring 2009). I believe I would have to take my laptop to an Apple Store in order to upgrade to Lion, or wait for the software to be available on USB (which apparently is happening next month?). I find it weird that I can't buy it on disc but I guess this is the way of the future.
