Mac OS X Leopard

I'm still working in Panther (10.3.9) on my old Powerbook, and everything is just fine. But I am considering the upgrade to Leopard, or possibly buying myself a shiny new iMac with Leopard pre-installed. I kinda just want to wait a little bit, let Apple sort the kinks out, and also let me save up a bit more.

I read in another Forum that Apple has quickly released a series of patches that address some of the issues that hve shown up with Leopard.
(contrast this with Microsoft which won't have SP1 for Vista until year (though the beta is going to be out shortly).

EDIT: Do I have ANY reason to keep OS9 files around, or are they just a lost cause at this point? A shame, since I never got a chance to really play Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. :(

It's been sixteen years. ;) Seriously, though, 25th and Judgement Rites never worked for me in Classic. I had to reboot or play it on an old Powerbook 3400 I keep for just such an eventuality.

I'm guessing that your machine is too new to let you boot into Mac OS 9. As far as options go, you could get an external harddrive and install 10.4 and 9.2 onto that and boot from it if you want to do something in Classic.

However, since you have a Power PC (G4? Has to be, if it's a laptop and runs Leopard), I think you really want to look into SheepShaver, a Power PC Emulator. It runs at full speed on a Power PC like yours, and at 1/8 of rated clock speed for intel Macs (which works for me, since I don't think I own any Classic-only software that needs more that a 250 Mhz processor).

^^
Well, classic and those games (at least 25th anniversary) worked on classic when I had Tiger on my laptop (which is 2.5 years old at this point). But, I'll take a look into SheepSaver, since I do have a Power PC G4. Thanks.

Yes, 10.5.1 was released on Friday and contained a host of fixes, most notably for a potential data-loss bug when moving files across volumes and to correct some misleading terminology in the firewall preference pane.

I've had good luck with Leopard thus far, particularly on my portable. The improvements to the graphics drivers have really punched up the relatively anemic built-in GMA950 that comes on the standard MacBooks. I also really like the unified interface, the whole system looks quite a bit more polished now that all applications conform to the same look-and-feel. I just wish that the look they chose was a bit more colorful. The grey gets a little drab after a while.
