Lupin III

Lupin III is a Japanese comic animation series that's been going for quite some time. It's most famous installment is the feature film "Castle of Cagliostro", which was Miyazaki's feature debut. It also has inspired a large number of other anime, most notably the Cowboy Bebop series.

There's been talk about a Lupin III live action film for quite some time, possibly starring Jim Carrey. Any thoughts?

I bought a bunch of Lupin III movies on a FYE sale a year or so ago. They were mildly entertaining. Actually it's one of the very few anime shows I sampled that I found to be decent.

I haven't seen more than a few installments from the franchise (Castle of Cagliostro and part of the 2nd TV series which aired on Cartoon Network back in the day) but what I've seen I've liked. I need to locate more of the stuff.

As for the live action movie, yeah, that's been rumored for a while but it seems to be in production limbo.

In latest Lupin news though it was announced last month that two of Japan's massive anime franchises would be crossing over for a film, namely Lupin the 3rd and Detective Conan (Case Closed here in the US). I'm definitely going to keep an eye open for that one. Anime's greatest thief versus anime's greatest detective. :)

I can never say how such a pairing would go, and my DC/CC viewing is limited, but I'd lay odds it ends with the wily Lupin tumbling to the fact that the 'kid' is the real brains and being let go in exchange for keeping this quiet.
