Lucian Alliance in SGU?

The Lucian Alliance = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

A cheap and lazy way to let the writers still use Gould ships and tech in the series after season 8

With Asgard weapons and shields our ship should be superior to a lowly Ha'tak, that battle did not make sense

I think someone had to tip off the Lucian Alliance about the base, I think there is a spy among them

If it was a pure ship vs ship battle and the Hammond did have Asguard weapons it doesn't make sense. Remember that Icarus was the target and those Ha'taks had full fighter wings against only 16 from Hammond and a handful from Icarus base. It was a numbers fight, not a technology fight.

The Hammond has to protect Icarus base with its shields too, otherwise, the Ha'taks could bombard the planet surface. This could heavily tax the energy supply of the Hammond, to the point where they can't afford to divert power to their beam weapons.

I always hate these kinds of discussions when it comes to sci-fi.

Everyone seems to look at sci-fi technology with black-and-white eyes. If X is better than Y, there's no way Y can defeat X. It's ridiculous. Things don't work like that in the real world and things won't work like that in the future.

Using this argument, if the Asgards had all these ships featuring these weapons, they could have easily wiped out the Goa'uld with a single ship. But they couldn't because that argument is complete bullshit.

Even worse, even with that argument (and much like other people have pointed out), the attackers weren't focusing on the Hammond. They were focusing on the base down below. People also seem to be forgetting that they didn't survive the attack whereas the Hammond did.

Just... argh. I really hate those types of arguments. They're asinine and stupid. "My dad can beat up your dad so your dad can't even try to fight back because it's useless and there's no way to win becuase my dad was in the army and yours wasn't and thus he has army training and yours doesn't so there's no way to win omg so don't try you're stupid shut up!" That's what it always boils down to in my head.

Good point.

Not really. Goa'uld ships and tech were already expected after season 8, as they were after all being used by the Jaffa.

In the first appearance of the Lucian Alliance they did have some ships of a design I'm not familiar with, suggesting that they gradually acquired Goa'uld technology. This is quite realistic, as similar things happened with the fall of the Roman Empire, the Third Reich and the Soviet Union. Underworld connects are widespread throughout the former Goa'uld realms (if Vala and her former coherts is any indication), so it's entirely believable and acceptable that the Lucians, who take a more organized crime/mafia styled approach to things, should have these hand-me-downs, along with the Jaffa.

Does anyone remember the other, smaller ships they had in their first appearance? Have they appeared at all since then?

just a thought, perhaps they did have a spy in the icarus base and the lucian alliance fount out what they were doing and didnt want them to invite more races from other galaxies to come bk to the milky way to cause trouble like the ori and the wraith so they wanted stop any chance of them going to another galaxy

^^Well, no one outside of Stargate Command and the now deceased Asgard, would have known about the Wraith...

Personally, I always thought there was too much time in the Atlantis finale between when the hiveship engaged the Apollo and the Sun Tzu and when they made it to Earth. Who knows, maybe they dropped off at a Milky Way planet for a snack?

And one that makes complete sense after the collapse of the System Lords. What else are a bunch of slaves and oppressed people going to do with their former master's toys? Star a communal farm and get high? The Gould had star-spanning empires of millions of people and hundreds of ships, what do you think should have happened to them?
