Lucas open to returning to Star Wars if given full control

No. He ruined the prequels. Give him some creative liberties, but not control. I love the new movies and I believe giving him back the reigns is a big step backwards.
Have to disagree.

Both The Force Awakens and The Rise Of Skywalker have made the prequel trilogy shine all the brighter in comparison.

I'd give George another go, as long as he delegates scripting duties.

I can't see this happening, if he was really willing to make more Star Wars movies he never would have sold the franchise, and if Disney cared about his vision for the franchise they wouldn't have tossed out his version of the sequel trilogy.

Disney - "We made a mistake"
Lucas - "So did I..."

I've realized now there are more moderate to bad Star Wars movies than good to great.

I totally disagree. For me, the good to great movies are (in in-universe chronological order instead of good to great order, because why not): Ep III, Rogue One, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX

while the bad movies would be: Ep I, II, Solo

I'm less forgiving of some of the canon side content, but movie wise the only things I can't stand are the first two prequels and Solo.

As for Lucas coming back, I never want it to happen. The guy only made one decent movie post 1983 (I don't count Indiana Jones 1 or 3 as Lucas movies), and honestly he is not the reason that the OT was great, it was the people who used his good ideas (while helping get rid of his bad ideas) to make great movies as a team.

Episodes VII and VIII are classics, and IX is really fun and ridiculously underrated. All three of them are better then any of Lucas's post RotJ work, and VII and VIII are probably better then the OT in a lot of ways. Lucas just needs to stay retired, Star Wars is doing fine with out him, regardless of the ridiculous whining about the unfairly bashed IX (which has a few big flaws but is overall a very entertaining movie, in my opinion).

Nothing can make shit shine. Not even the crappy new trilogy.;)

They were all flawed, but had highpoints. Even Phantom Menace for instance had Duel of the Fates, Maul, the Maul duels, Wipe them out - all of them...
And also the PT was incredibly innovative in terms of moviemaking technology. And I'd say that Lucas is a better action director than anyone else who has directed Star Wars.

You're right about the innovations, and you're right about the action sequences, but it's just MHO that he leaned too heavily on the new-fangled movie tech. Just because he could, didn't mean that he should. I think the storytelling suffered for it. Also, some of the casting didn't help. That said, I love Ewan as Obi-Wan and have from the start.

I am certainly not arguing that the prequels were good movies. The good parts just make the awful parts more disappointing.

It's good he isn't lacking in confidence ;).

Seriously, his ideas with full control, even if interesting, would very likely be way too un-commercial, way too big a risk and an instantly-divisive decision for Disney to take.

Ah, yes. The fandom that berated him to the point of retirement now wants him back with open arms.

It doesn't. Most people haven't changed their minds about the prequels or him, if feelings have grown a bit more positive they are still, at best, a very mixed bag.

George Lucas had great creative vision, but was never a particularly good director or screenwriter.
ESB was one of the best SW because it had a great creative team - a director and screenwriters who knew their business.

He did help write the screenplay even though he, I think modestly, only had story credit. I think he contributed more than Leigh Brackett who only wrote the first draft.

but was never a particularly good director or screenwriter.
Well the first part is arguable but the second (director) is laughable. The prequels are what they are, but he made Graffiti and Star Wars back to back. At one point he was a hell of a director.

Never watched or heard of Graffiti, so I gotta take your word for it. But in reference to the OT, ANH was amazing but could have used better polish. IIRC he didn't actually write the screenplay but had a lot of input.

Perhaps he was more successful directing smaller scale films than blockbuster action packed dramas; as the Prequel Trilogy had too much action, CGI and stiff dialog. Decent films, but enough flaws to keep them from being good, IMO.

TLJ, in my opinion, was the worst of all the Star Wars movies ever made (haven't watched RoS yet).
Not that it was a bad movie per se, but so mediocre that it could have been improved radically by simply cutting it an hour shorter.

Well, before the prequels he only wrote and directed three films. So you're missing a third of them (assuming you've heard of or seen THX-1138) when you say "was never"

I've heard of THX but never watched it. So I will modify my earlier statement to Star Wars movies only.

Never heard of American Graffiti? It's an excellent film.
But the sequel which Lucas took a back seat on as executive producer, More American Graffiti... not so much.

Let Lucas come up with the story and then let Favreau and Filoni write and produce with some input from Lucas and then have Taika Waititi direct it and also maybe add some possible story idea's as well. Kevin Feige gets final okay but Waititi gets to make the final cut of the movie.
