Lowering sea level.

What about my second idea? That has merit right?

Ok, how about we dig a huge deep hole in northern Greenland, line it with water proof material and start pumping loads of water into it and then cover it over?

or what about my third idea that i've just thought up.
Design and build huge drills and drill them into the Earths surface, dig several thousand holes under the seas and the water will fill all the holes up lowering the sea levels?
So, where are you going to put the stuff you dig out of the holes? In the ocean?

Grand canyon ain't nearly big enough to hold the amount of dirt that would be required. Even if there were an economical way to get it there.

Perhaps you should leave these problems to the experts.

The Grand Canyon was a joke. All dirt will be piled up into a huge mountain in central Greenland.
That's why my second idea is better.

We nuke Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan into the ground (giving innocent people the chance to flee first), then keep bombing it until it's really deep; the border line in the south connecting Iraq and Iran leads directly into the Indian ocean, so it would all come flooding in to fill.

Then we fill in the Grand Canyon, and any other crevices. ;-)

1. The Greenlanders will get pissed.

2. The steam will burn you.

How about we start eating whales, sharks and everything else BIG in the ocean. The more we eat the more the water receeds!

I'm sure we could use the Large Hadron Collider to somehow open thousands of tiny wormholes into the oceans and transport water into space...

Since the world is supposed to end anyway, maybe I should go into one of these little black holes with the water, just to make sure it doesn't fall into the hands of aliens who would use it for weapons of mass destruction!

Put stargate on mars one on earth int he ocean, open the stargate and wait and wait even at that rate it would take a while to lower the sea level a centimeter. Though you could create some nice big lakes on mars.

Do you understand the scale of the mega-engineering project you are proposing, and, are you aware that there are other methods which are much more plausible and less expensive to accomplish the same goal;

say for instance; just converting over to geothermal energy and quitting
oil?

:vulcan:

Building a space bridge and then pumping water straight to orbit would be a smaller task and would fix the problem more directly by depositing water vapor where it can be zapped into o3.
:vulcan:

Alternately, you could build a 75 mile tall windsock a mile or three in diameter and create a new super volcano somewhere 10 meters below sea level.

:vulcan:

these are just examples...

yes but since mars has no magnetic field to speak of and in any case is too
cold for water in liquid form, you'd be wasting water better sent to orbit for use later in space exploration.

If you could raise marses temperature, the water would gas into the atmosphere and be blown away by the cosmic wind, which is what happened to marses atmosphere the first time.

well, brainstorming can be fine if it doesn't go silly. Unless thats the point. Which maybe it is?
Do you want solutions to the problem ? Or is this human thought recreation?

I'm talking about lowering the sea level drastically here, so drastically that we can reclaim land lost to the sea.

That doesn't make sense, you can't just make volcanoes and how on earth would that lower the sea level?

A better way might be to deploy about 700 ships equipped with firehose sprayers in the warm areas of the world's oceans. Each pumps up water from the sea and squirts it out in streams port and starboard, far from sealanes, to create a modest global-cooling effect and gradually restore Arctic and Antarctic ice. The cost is relative moderate (a few billion), and occasionally these ships can be called upon to perform rescue opeations (or maybe fight fires on land near a coastline, if you don't mind the salt.)

Not as much fun as the notion of a flat Earth, though.

I think you are all overlooking other factors. For instance when hydrogen fuel cells are perfected (whatever time that may be) and we have an essentially unlimited fuel supply. We American will start driving huge vehicles again. Except this time it will not stop at SUVs but we will be driving around in huge hydrogen powered monstrosities the size of a current RV.

All that fuel consumption, along with the water consumption of billions of extra people on the planet, will drain all the extra water out of the ocean.

Plus I like the filling up of the Grand Canyon idea. Those of you who say it will not fit just have to remember you can jump up and down on it alot and MAKE it fit!
