Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

I think of all the news, finding out Lower Decks is coming back this summer (As well as Prodigy) was the best. I'm starting to find the animated Treks better than the live action treks (Even though the last two episodes of Discovery were the two best episodes of the season so far). However, I am starting to worry about over saturation. I know I'm guilty of this, but just out of habit and curiousity, I'm going to watch it all. That's a lot of continuous Star Trek happening.

Yeah I’m guessing august, just like the first two seasons

I figure it’ll be August, or maybe a little earlier this year. With Strange New Worlds premiering on May 5th, it’ll complete its 10 episode season on July 7th. It doesn’t seem implausible that LD could be aiming for a S03 premiere in mid-July.

Unless the third batch of five of Prodigy air starting 7/7 or 7/14.

Possibly. The creators of Prodigy have said that it won’t be split into five parts regularly, and that they’re intended to be, and will hopefully going forward, aired in 10 episode arcs.

Since they’re listed as coming later this year, and LD is more specifically coming in the summer, ‪‪I figured LD was likely coming first, but it’s especially harder to tell knowing they’re going to be having the occasional overlap, like the three weeks Disco and Picard are released together, and the week that’s both Picard’s finale and SNW’s premiere.

So,
Viewers are introduced to an underworld figure named Haz Mazaro who runs an illicit casino outside Federation jurisdiction, not unlike Quark, but more jovial/less irritable.

Upon meeting some of the Discovery crew there on a mission Haz said:

Haz Mazaro said:
I heard we had Starfleet guests, so I just had to scurry like a spider cow to welcome you.
which, ‪‪I believe is the first mention of something that orginated on Lower Decks in one of the other series, and that’s pretty rad.

On a tangential note, I am genuinely surprised with utter disbelief that Haz and his casino’s surveillance system never once noticed all the signs that Booke and Burnham were throwing at each other.

Just saw the great movie Casino (based on a true story) over the weekend and between all the cameras, security personnel, pit bosses and hired contractors who were former card counters, I don’t think there should have been any way that they could work together like that without being noticed and ejected from the game (or worse). And that was 1970/80’s technology!

Maybe Haz did notice, but was swayed by nostalgia and/or friendship to not take action. Just thought it was kind of weird. It was a good scene otherwise, IMO. Better than the boxing bit, anyway.
Sorry for the digression off-topic, BTW. The mention of Haz sparked my memory.

How old are the 4 main characters?
As of the start of the series, Boimler is presumably 23, given it's been a year since he graduated the Academy. Rutherford and Tendi are presumably the same approximate age, Tendi might be a bit younger though. Mariner's probably in her late twenties, might even be thirty.
