Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Notably, Mariner constantly talks about how rank changes you and how all Starfleet officers care about is their prestige in the first season. I think its barely subtext she just means her mother changed when she got her own command.

Freeman's attitude also indicates she has serious issues with how little esteem Starfleet holds her in and an undeserved sense of glory.

"We once escorted the Enterprise out of Starbase 11!"

Got to the end of the season! I only had three drinks, so I'm still sober.

Favorite Episode: "Wej Duj"
Unexpected Gem: "An Embarrassment of Dooplers"
"First First Contact" works will as a season finale.

Those are the episodes I've give an 8 out of 10 or above. The rest are in the 5-7 range. So, yeah. I'd agree with those who say the second half of the season was better.

Boimler is like Eric Foreman from That '70s Show.

Having kinda erratic watch of this season I felt discouraged to make posts for every episode but I must say I enjoyed it more than season 1. And I´m kinda surprised because I actually didn´t like its first half very much, the notable exception being "We´ll Always Have Tom Paris. There was creatively used Guest Star, Mariner and Tendi adventure, the Kazon joke... It was pretty coherent all around. Other episodes had a lame feel, honestly and sometimes the referential humor felt again forced (like "Last Outpost Ferengi" in "Mugato, Gumato" ).

However since the episode "The Spy Humongous" there wasn´t a single one I didn´t like! Personal favorites being probably "Where Pleasent Fountains Lie" (another contender for Futurama without Futurama) and everybody's favorite "wej Dur".

I feel like the season started jumping upward with an Embarrassment of Dooplers. The last bit of the episode had heart to it that hadn't been seen in Lower Decks up to that point, with Boimler and Mariner showing genuine character growth, emotional vulnerability, and forging a true friendship. That was when it became clear Season 2 was headed for a better trajectory than Season 1.

I've just started watching it and so far I'm loving it. It is a big on the comic side, but I like the characters and the ship and the situations they are in. I like some of the fun links I've seen so far.

Everything good being said, I still think that McMahan is ironically the weakest or simply the least funny of show´s writers. But considering he does only premiere and finale, I can live with it.

I think you'll find as showrunner he's very much involved in the writing of all the episodes, regardless if he's credited or not.
