Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Like that time someone I knew decided to go sledding in the summer time with their friends, so they "borrowed" the hood of a parent's car to ride down the rocky sledding hill.
Shit, that's an amazing idea!
They could take a page from FASA, when junior officers put a still in one of the warp nacelles, where the effects of relativistic time dilation were more pronounced, in order to quickly make large quantities of well-aged contraband. :)
As is that!

Well, it's confirmed, for I think the first time ever, a studio has given a Star Trek show an official abbreviation via announcement: LDS for Lower Decks. Did Paramount ever do this for TNG, DS9, VOY or ENT? I somehow remember all those names sort of arise organically out of the fandom, including the movie abbreviations.

Pretty sure the closest we got prior to this was the abbreviation Disco for Discovery coming from the t-shirts we see them wearing on the show.

Oh, right! Forgot about that one. Yeah, I would agree that's probably the only one.
And I think some fans are taking a jokey reply to a fan question on Twitter way too serious. It's not what I would call an “official announcement”. :)
I'll lay some of the blame on TrekMovie for fanning the flames on that one. :D

Yes. The Star Trek Encyclopedia invented the idea of the three-letter abbreviations as short-hand citation for the four shows they covered: TOS (also popularizing the name "The Original Series" for classic Star Trek), TNG, DS9, and VGR. Memory Alpha, started in 2003, further cemented the abbreviations in their citation system, while covering the animated Star Trek (TAS for the retronym The Animated Series), ENT, and changing the Voyager citation to VOY (early MA used both VGR and VOY equally for a number of years, before standardizing).

Paramount to this day insists on VGR for Voyager (as do many, but not all official authors, see Christopher Bennett's work), but MA's popularization of VOY seems to have won out. MA recently adopted DIS for Discovery, contrary to the official stance of DSC and mirroring the VOY/VGR wars of old (although sister site Memory Beta instead uses DSC, a rare break in standards). They also confusingly use ST for Short Treks (MB does not use an abbreviation), the first series with a two-letter abbreviation (movies do not have abbreviations in the Encyclopedia or Memory Alpha).

Originally, LOW was proposed on MA as a potential abbreviation for Lower Decks, on the basis of a "three-letter tradition", before discussion quickly settled on LD. They note LDS as the "official" abbreviation, just like they do with DSC and VGR, but go their own way on the issue. My common sense tells me that LD will win out in the end, as it seems the most logical assessment over the clunky LDS proposed by CBS.

Looks more like the Hawking shuttle from Generations, i.e. the TFF shuttle with the Type-6 front windows. Nice reference.
It would be so cool if they explained that these old shuttles were upgraded and still in use before the type 6 and 7 became the new standard

Now that I think about it, if you are a vulcan and have a relationship with a human, would you accept that it is logical to have sex more than once every four years?

I think they can choose to do it more often, maybe in an unemotional way XD
