Love triangle episode?

If I remember correctly, there are no love triangle episodes for TOS. (e.g. Kirk likes the girl but she likes Spock.) Is there some reason why they didn't use this common plot device?

Not between series regulars as far as I know, but McCoy does call the tragic relationship between Kirk/Rayna/Flint an 'eternal triangle'.

That totally counts as a love triangle! There's a few others as well.
-Wink of an Eye. Deela & Kirk...and Rael(one of the few episodes where Kirk actually get his boots knocked off)

-Is there no truth in beauty? Almost a love quadrilateral, between Spock, Kollos, Dr. Miranda Jones, and Kirk...wait...and that other guy who loved Miranda.

That other episode with Diane Muldaur has a love triangle between the three aliens.

If you use your imagination, Day of the Dove maybe.

All our Yesterdays sort of has a love triangle angle.

There's a definite love triangle in the episode where Kirk lose his memory and becomes a Native American.

Kirk becomes a 3rd wheel in The Cloud
Minders.

Also, what about "The Mantrap" and "By Any Other Name"... wouldn't those count? ;-)

City on The Edge could have had that scenario if Edith had survived the truck agreed, what about Kirk, Nona and Tyree though? Kirk didn't want to step on Tyree's toes but Nona wanted Kirk's powers and weapons so used the roots and her allure to draw him in! Kellinda and Rojan were also triangles as were The Scalosians in Wink of an eye but the best one has to be Requiem For Methuselah with Kirk, Rayna and flint as you said!

Most of those involve two alien/guest characters though, not rivalry among the big 3 while two or more compete for the affections of the same girl.

I would agree that Kirk and Mara's interactions in 'Day of the Dove' bordered upon romance. Joanne Linville's Romulan commander in 'The Enterprise Incident' seemed to have "tension" with Kirk and Spock that went beyond espionage and galactic cold-war intrigue ;)

The best love triangle never happened. If Helen Noel had been the ship's doctor instead of McCoy, her constant interactions with Kirk and Spock would have been fascinating. Big "McCoy" episodes, especially "The Empath," would have been twice as electric.

Kirk must have something in his sweat glands, like a pheromone similar to the green alien girls in Enterprise.

Even the women that aren't interested in him are interested in him.

I agree with Laura. Between the leads and a woman, it never happened. I disagree with the suggestions.

The Enterprise Incident? I don't recall any spark between Kirk and the Commander.
City on the Edge? Between Edith, Kirk, and McCoy? Nope.
All Our Yesterdays? Between Spock, McCoy, and Zarabeth? I didn't detect any attraction between McCoy and Zarabeth.

Remember, McCoy was just coming out of his overdosed state. Give him a little time sober and he might be attracted to her compassion for others...

Two men, one woman. If they had been trapped back in time long enough, McCoy would feel like the lonely third wheel.

McCoy was already asking Edith out, but Edith politely turned him down. I saw no sparks between them the way that she and Kirk had both felt something.
