Love the movie, hate engineering

Kind of makes sense that it would look like a distillery. But only after Scotty redesigned it...

Didn't you know the Enterprise does not run just any old matter and anti-matter. It has a Budweiser, anti-Budweiser reactor. with frost chilled plasma conduits. Thats why the ships is so big to hold all wheat, barley, rice, and hops to brew the beer for the reactor. That water pipe Scotty was in was a feed water for the brewing process.

Soar Dude

Lets hope that with the sequel, we start the film seeing the engineering section having more sophisticated equipment/panels installed, and the pipes sealed within bulkheads and enclosures, bringing the sleekness of the new bridge, with the raw energy of engineering.
Pipes sealed? That doesn't bode well for maintenance nor a degree of realism. The "sleek, clean" look of "the future" as was presented in the 1960's is far out of touch with any degree of reality.

Matter/Anti-Matter reactions aren't going to be happening in stainless steel tanks. Warp reactor plasma won't be running through pipes with hand turned valves. Filming in a brewery doesn't convey the feeling of magnetic containment and high tech engineering. It's strictly a cost saving measure for the producers and they hope the fans play along.

exactly.

tng's, tos's, the movies', and voyager's engineerings were not strokes of genius either.

i just hope they invest more in the set for the next film, if we have a sequel.

I loved engineering. I loved the shuttle bays. No more sterile, pristine grade school play sets for work. These places with their beams and supports and cross members looked "worked in". I loved how the shuttle that Pike took off in looked all scuffed and beat up.

There was a sense of realism to everything. I loved it.

Not that original TOS engineering was anything special. It was rather drab, but this new engineering is a convoluted maze of pipes and looks out of place on the new ship. I understand that use of the Budweiser facility was a cost-saver. Perhaps the saved money made other effects and sets possible. If so, so be it. But I hope that Engineering is redesigned from the ground up if we are fortunate enough to have a sequel.

Honestly, I loved Engineering. It felt real.
It felt like what the engineering section of a Starship would look like. The technology seemed more believable. Not picking a fight or anything, just saying for me it was different, but I am very glad you loved the movie! :D

Again, stainless steel has desirable properties from a nuclear standpoint.

It makes more sense to keep everything contained in huge robust containers behind shielding than it does to have a huge pressurized glowing thing that people can walk up to and touch. Not just from a damage-control and radiological protection standpoint but from a security standpoint as well.

Wouldn't want someone walking up and putting a bomb on your core or prehaps pointing a disrupter at it...

Just out of curiosity, you nay-sayers... lets see a quick pen-paper/pencil-paper sketch of how you think engineering should look. If you don't like it so bad lets see what you come up with.

The engineering section of the new Enterprise in the movie looked nothing like an Engineering section of a starship.. It looked more like a huge warehouse with transparent water tubes... Darn, gimme the NX-01 engineering section... That one at least looked better.. But I still love the new Enterprise, just not the engineering.. :-)
