Oh yeah... that would be interesting, but what a waste of a regular character.

We have been told that the plane crashed in the sea and they found the bodies.
We know Desmond went back in time and told some people what happened, this act will have started a second timeline.
The force field around the island protected the first timeline, so on the island the plane still broke up, and many passengers survived, only to die on the island.
Meanwhile in timeline two, most of the same passengers got on the plane and crashed in the sea and died, however, some might not have got on the plane at all, and lived.
Hence there are people alive on the island who died on the plane, and people alive in america who died on the island.

Just did some poking around over at Lostpedia and DarkUFO for some Find 815 stuff and couldn't find anything to support that. Not calling you out or anything but could you throw us a link?
Surely something so huge in terms of the overall mythology would be revealed in some kind of WTF on the show itself.

I'll try and track down the post I read that from, but htis was the logic of it:
It was all about the dates. 815 crashed in 2004, but a calander on the new website shows that it is 2007 when the guy is making the video. But at the time he is making the video 815 hadn't yey been found, but we know from the series that Jack calls the ship on the 90th day.
there was also something about the "Gold ticket" Jack mentions in the flashforward and the new Ocianic Website saying Oceanic only just reopened and started flying agian.
Anyways, it was just something someone was posting about at another site I was surfing through. I'll try and track down the site/link, but as I said it was only "apparently", I haven't gone to those new sites myself to check it out.

^And upon further thinking, this could also explain why Walter will now be 3-4 years older on the show when he comes back.
Remember that the writers said they would explain why Walter had aged so much, and a time difference between the island and the rest of the world would explain that.
Once Walter and Michael got away from the Island, they would go back to "normal" time and age regularly (compared to the rest of the Losties who are still stuck in "slow" time.)
This could also be used to explain how the rumored "survivor s of the Black Rock" could still be around. If one month on the island is equal to 1 year in the outside world then someone who crashed/shipwreck on the island 120 years ago (our time) would only have aged 10 years on the island.
