I seem to recall reading that that story was Marco Palmieri's pet project, and that when he was let go, the project was pretty much shelved. Someone more knowledgable can correct me if I'm wrong, though.
The last time this came up, I remember someone saying that it didn't even get out of the planning stage; it was just mentioned at the same time as TBA was announced and since that book was released, everyone expected the Sisko novel to follow.

Is there any news on "The Lost Era" book that would cover Benjamin Sisko's time on the USS Okinawa under the captaincy of James Leyton. Or is this 11th book in "The Lost Era" series covering the Tzenkethi War still in limbo or has it been canceled?
Marco and I discussed ideas for this book before he was RIFed, but without him to push the idea, I think it's fallen by the wayside for now.

May I ask what some of the ideas were for the book? How did you and Marco invision the Tzenkethi? As Larry Niven's Kzinti or a variation thereof? Or are you not permitted to disclose this information under an NDA etc.?

There is no connection between the Tzenkethi and the Kzinti; that's just something some fans imagined based on the vague similarity of the names. According to Robert Hewitt Wolfe, who created them for "The Adversary," he envisioned the Tzenkethi as possibly being "heavily armored lizard things," something like a Tyrannosaurus rex with heavier arms.
The go-go boots are iffy, but I see nothing wrong with the rest.^ However, I did see him at the bookstore recently, sitting in the cafe with his laptop pretending to be one of those erudite writer folks, studying books containing detailed anatomical diagrams of hamsters. Big, muscled, ninja-like hamsters. With go-go boots. And eye-patches.
