LOST Episode ???

planet mission.
an unknown alien shuttle (or small ship) .
Alien crew and captain dead .
Last words from captain in unknown language.
(not far in a cliff) an eternal lifeform (crystal) glows
and sucks the life outta redshirts maybe? (???)
the dead captain message is decoded ...
"use the protection mask, but ...
... make sure to FIX THE CRACK!"
(is why captain died slow brain death ...)
Kirk (or Spock) is already trying to talk with IT.
The other comes to warn, but too late he is already
under the control of the entity. But NOW IT discovers that
there is "OTHERS" than IT, but different, (anyway!)

So this is roughly the plot as I remember. Only saw it once ???

Sounds like you watched some Lost followed by some Star Trek, ate some cheese and then fell asleep...

...Could it be a dream?

Or maybe a novel?

Not an episode, unless your memory of it has been badly twisted. I agree with the idea you are remembering a Novel of some kind.

I'm pretty sure I'd remember an episode that had dialog like "Use protection, but FIX THE CRACK!"
