Who says that Desmond and Penny were on the same timeline as the O6? The events we saw with them could have been several weeks or even months before the O6's story begins in season 5 which would give them more than sufficient time to sail from wherever they were to England to L.A. Desmond would want to stay off the grid as much as possible. Sailing as opposed to flying would help that goal a lot more.
No one says. It's just me guessing. And I could be wrong of course.

We don't know how long she has been in LA. We don't know exactly when he went to see Widmore. All we really know is he showed up at the same time as the O6. But the way the episodes are constructed it seem these events happened within days.

No, you're right. The way the episodes are constructed, it does seem that way. However, one would think that the events happening on-island are happening in tandem with the O6 and Desmond stories and we know that's really not true. I'm just saying that when you add time constraints (and the very realistic idea that Desmond would probably want to keep to the seas and keep from Ben finding them) its more likely than not that Desmond, Penny and little Charlie's story started a few weeks pre-O6.

I'm just bummed out that we no appear to be going back to the (IMO) worn out flashback format. I really did like the structure of S4 so far, but I assume we'll now spend the rest of the season filling in time with flashbacks that covered the last 36 hrs, plus other O6 happenings in the wide world.

Next episode already has much flashback material.

Hurley must have brought Charlie's guitar. Maybe that was what Jack's father's shoes were to Jack.
Good call (and Mr Light who also noted it). I didn't even think about why Hurley had a guitar, but that makes a lot of sense.
Siyed mirrors Kate the first time(being brought onboard in hand cuffs by a US Marshal) & I think Kate is mirroring Claire.(worried about the right choice for her baby)

Who is Sun mirroring?

I think Ben went after Penny because that was his "promise" to an old friend. Killing Penny also gives Desmond a reason to come to the island.
Gertch, the length of the boat ride might not matter if the Island moves.

marc0702, Sun left her baby with their grandparents. Seeing how she was set out to kill Ben, she already knew she wasn't returning to him. She bought out her fathers company and probably set up a trust fund for him. So her child is safe and set for life. Arron is with him I think because the clue was telling the Grandmother that the baby has a new playmate.

I believe Sun is mirroring Rose and how at that time she was concerned with her husband, in this case its Jin as opposed to Bernard. Ben gave Jack some privacy, and probably left to go to the bathroom, just how Charlie was in the Bathroom in the pilot episode.

And Frank was originally supposed to pilot Flight 815, so maybe him flying Flight 316 somehow also helps "balance" things out. Now that I think about it my old, Infinite Improbability Theory might be making a come back in my mind.

God, that was a great episode. :bolian:

For the very first time, from the re-enactment of the series' opening shot, and Hawking's discussion of the Island and Jack's role, I could sense that the LOST circle was now really definitely starting to close at last, and that various loose ends especially from this season (Ajira products on the Island, Dan in the DHARMA Initiative, the very nature of Christian and what it means for Locke) were finally beginning to be tied up.

Also loved the other parallels between Ajira 316 and Oceanic 815 (Locke and Christian aside). I also believe Frank will be eaten by the Monster. :guffaw: :(

Of course, there are other questions thrown up: what happened to Ben before Flight 316 took off? How did Sayid and Hugo get on board? Where the HELL is Aaron? Who was Sayid's escort? What about that shifty-looking Asian guy? And how will the Island deal with Desmond?

While I remain resolutely spoiler-free, I'm intrigued over whether the O6's presence in the Island's past (also hinted by Jin :D in DHARMA gear) will help explain Dan's presence in DHARMA (and his relationship with little Charlotte).... and even finally reveal who Adam and Eve are? (I still think it's Rose and Bernard. :bolian:)

The door has certainly been opened for "Whatshisname" and "Whatsherface" are Adam and Eve theories. Could be anyone!

:D

One thing's for sure: when we do find out, I certainly wouldn't Adam and Eve it! :bolian:

We need some Cock-Er-Nees in the show just so they can become Adam and Eve so that we won't Adam and Eve it when we find out it's them who's brown bread.

Yes.

That's what has me the most bummed out. At first, I was thrilled they were back on the island already. The mainland stuff was starting to feel stretched out so ending it quickly was a good idea. However, you then realize that in getting back to the island they created all of these other mainland mysteries which they'll obviously delve into via flashbacks. :Groan:

Well, we can home they won't take up too much air time.

As to the question about whether things are moving too fast or too slow. I think right at the moment they have the appearance of moving faster than they really are. The answer to this question will depend on the amount of flashback time they devote to the remaining mainland mysteries.

If they don't devote any more (very unlikely), I'd say things are moving at the correct pace. If they do devote flashback time, then it's getting too drawn out.

Interesting, however Rose wasn't worried about Bernard until after the crash, when they got seperated. Before that her concern was her cancer.

Mr. Awe & Hyperspace005, they're still doing flashbacks. However, not about the cast, this time they about the Island itself. The flashbacks are now telling you the story of the Island, as if it's a character now too.

I read someplace that Kate was mirroring Claire because
Kate may be pregnant.
Although I don't think I've seen any evidence of that.

Are you referring to what has been done so far in S4? If so I wouldn't call that flashbacks... From the characters perspective on the island it has been a linear story flow, even if they have been jumping from time period to time period.

I don't agree. A Dharma bunker being there and then (flash) it's not built yet, isn't linear.

I made the mistake of watching this episode at 2 am, while my teething son toddled around the living room yelling at things.

In that context, it's hard to enjoy anything.

Joe, will try again

Eh, this show gets worse.

I'm really struggling to keep watching.

I'm reaching the point where I couldn't care less how it ends.
