Lost 4x10: "Something Nice Back Home"

He could be going for a black/white worldview thing - more hostile towards "enemies" but equally more fanatical about protecting friends. The way he threatened Ben over Hurley for instance. His protectiveness is not necessarily a sign of mental health.

He originally played the loner as a way of defending himself against the emotional risk of caring about people. The fact that he's abandoned that defense could be a sign that he no longer is worried about risks - he has nothing to lose. If that's what's happening, he's going to become increasingly dangerous to everyone.
 
LostPedia notes that the game has be August 31st, 2007, but they also note that it's a prop and may not be the intention of the writers (like the obituary in "Through the Looking Glass").

Mostly average stuff but I voted above average since the episode at least solved one question I was anxious to know the answer to.

Jack and Kate getting married? Hmm somehow I just don't see it. Also Jack getting an appendix operation on the island seems to be an exercise in pointlessness It provides no tension nor does it seem to be integral to the overall story. This reminded me of his Thailand flashback.

Sawyer's becoming ROTJ Han Solo. ;)
 
Anyone else feel like Juliette somehow caused Jack's appendix problems, perhaps as a payback for him spurning her? She's now carrying out one of Ben's plans?

Jack sinned against the island. He allowed outsiders to access the island and kill it's inhabitants. Plus he is trying to leave and take more people with him. So it is no longer protecting him.

Parents don't like to think of their little girl as being a woman, and thought about as a sex object. That being said they need to realize she is a woman and needs to lead her own life.

Lilly has said that she gets a call from her parents if they so much as see her kiss a guy in an episode, so something like this would probably send them through the roof.

This helps explain why she is so odd, it comes from her parents.
 
Regarding Charlotte, it was pretty much shown in that episode with the Dharma polar bear remains that she's a polyglot. At least, that what was I got from the dialogue between her and that guy, with her understanding french and all..
 
Hm, must be the week for padding, cause this seemed a lot like padding.

What we did get:

Jack and Kate are living together with Aaron (seemingly before Jack goes nuts)
Kate is doing something for Sawyer
Sawyer Chose to stay on the island
Jack saw his Dad (real/fake/smokey?)
Claire saw Jack's Dad
Claire vanished
Lapidus and co are probably back on the boat by now
Charlotte knows Korean
Sun possibly gets off the island with Charlotte but we still don't know

Some of the nice stuff:

Juliette and Kate bonding after the operation
Sawyer looking out for Claire
Miles hopefully proving himself by not giving them up

Rousseau and Carl's faces in the dirt was pretty gross. I wanna know who buried em, I'm assuming that the marines or whoever they are did.

This worse than the average Jack episode because usually at least the flash (either back or forward) is interesting, but not this time. I simply do not give a shit about the Jack/Kate romance. Jack was a complete jackass at the end of the flashforward. It's none of his business what Kate is doing for Sawyer, even if she's his fiance. To top it off, the whole appendix drama was boring and pointless. The only thing that came out of it was Rose pointing out that people get healed on the Island and not sick.

John Terry was completely wasted. We could have had two very interesting conversations with both of his children and he barely spoke a line.

The only good things about this episode were Jin giving Charlotte the smackdown and the scenes with Claire, Sawyer, and Miles.

My first "average" in a very long time.

Pretty much exactly how I felt about the episode. Also annoyed me that they teased another islander kicking the bucket and all that happens is Claire walks off in to the jungle with dear old dad.

While I agree with you that this was more or less a waste, you realize that Claire is likely dead (or undead) like Christian and that's why she went with him and left the baby.

My guess is she actually did die in that explosion - like she should have - in the last episode and the island has reanimated her for some reason or another which we'll probably find out either later this year, or early next.
