Welcome to the grading & discussion thread for Lost 4x10, "Something Nice Back Home". Spoilers ahead...

"Kate and Juliet must learn to work together when Jack's health is seriously compromised. Meanwhile, something goes wrong as Sawyer, Claire, Aaron and Miles continue their trek back to the beach."

Hm, I wasn't so sure this episode was going to be worthwhile until I found this:
Jack's case of stomache flu gets worse, and he suffers from explosive diaarhea (sic). So much so that the entire camp has to move a mile up the beach due to the number of holes he's been digging. Frankly I'm surprised the Losties don't keep stepping in each other's business as they haven't had a toilet since the hatch.

^ There's always the Pearl. :p

Just realised, was gonna put up a "Shape of Things to Come" avatar contest up, but forgot. :o

I'm tempted to give this an 'excellent', but I think I'll hold back and give it an 'above average'.

- This was my second favorite Jack episode after last season's finale.

- I had a hunch last week that Jack had appendicitis but didn't say anything.

- I wonder if Juliet took a peek at Jack's package.

- Kate made reference to "him", and she wasn't talking about Aaron like she was in "Eggtown". She was refering to Sawyer. I wonder if she was also refering to Sawyer in the season 3 finale. I dunno. Something weird is going on here.

- I thought that Christian would get a chance to confront Jack. Guess we'll have to wait on that. I wonder what he has to say.

Bleah, what a waste of an episode.

This worse than the average Jack episode because usually at least the flash (either back or forward) is interesting, but not this time. I simply do not give a shit about the Jack/Kate romance. Jack was a complete jackass at the end of the flashforward. It's none of his business what Kate is doing for Sawyer, even if she's his fiance. To top it off, the whole appendix drama was boring and pointless. The only thing that came out of it was Rose pointing out that people get healed on the Island and not sick.

John Terry was completely wasted. We could have had two very interesting conversations with both of his children and he barely spoke a line.

The only good things about this episode were Jin giving Charlotte the smackdown and the scenes with Claire, Sawyer, and Miles.

My first "average" in a very long time.

Yawn. After the best episode of the season comes the weakest. Another one where nothing happened. Jack got sick. Now he's fine. Jack loves Kate. Woohoo. So much for "stepping up the pace" due to the shortened season...

Smaller points:
- Always love seeing Rose, and the early scene between her and Bernard was nice.
- Charlotte speaks fluent Korean? That's one of the most convenient plot contrivances I've seen in a while...
- Christian Shepherd appears to Jack in the flashforward as the smoke detector goes on the fritz....hmm....
- Poor Claire...she's always going missing or being abducted or having her cottage firebombed. I love Emilie de Ravin, but wouldn't be too upset if Claire does bite it soon. She's become a plot device, not a character.
- Guess that puts to rest all speculation about Danielle for good... :(

3/4

A strange combination of don't-care and edge of your seat. The appendix story... meh. Season One. The flash-forward was interesting for the ghost stuff, but I don't really care about the Jack-Kate relationship. Sawyer-Claire was good for the incredible cliffhanger of Christian appearing to Claire as a physical person who she goes off with! Damn teases.

Actually I have a big problem with this whole thing. For all of post-break S3 Jack was completely googly over Juliet. In "The Other Woman" he tells he loves her and kisses her. Now all of sudden he demands to have Kate in the surgery and all this crap. It felt like it was completely out of left field, not set up at all.

Also appreciate more of a timeframe on the flash-forwards. Kate's trial led to Hurley seeing Charlie led to this one will lead to "Looking Glass".

How goes Jack learn that Claire is his sister? Will Christian/Jacob tell Claire? Will Jack meet Christian/Jacob?

The scene where Christian appeared to Jack at the night office was incredibly creepy. Well done. But I'm absolutely pissed they didn't TALK, after Hurley said someone would be coming to see him. Sigh. I was really hoping for a four-star Marley/Scrooge thing there.

Can't wait to see next ep, I've read far too many spoilers on it *pantpant*

Oh, good...I really didn't miss much. When I saw it was a Jack ep, I turned to something else and checked back for the Sawyer/Claire scenes.

You know, Kate was pretty hot when she wrapped her legs arounf Jack. I can imagine Evangeline Lilly's parents having another fit.

Oh yeah, and Rose did bring up a good point about the island and how Jack shouldn't be sick. I wouldn't have picked up on that. Still don't know what to make of it though.

^ maybe looking after his daughter? (to Velocity)

Above Average, a bit slow 'action'-wise, but enjoyable in the little twists and turns.

"Dad?"

Average. Very much a filler episode. Disappointing after last week's great episode. Once I realized it would be a Jack episode, I had a bad feeling. Jack acted like a complete ass and him and Kate can be irritating.

My suspcions that Jack was seeing his father was confirmed. The part with Christian Shepard was the best part of the show tonight. Liked Rose and Bernard in this episode too.

My guess is that Sawyer told Kate to check up on his daughter. Seeing as Kate knew the mother of Sawyer's child, it would be a logical conclusion.

Quote of the night, btw:

Daniel: "I wonder where all the power for this stuff comes from."
Charlotte: "We'll add that one to the list, Dan..."

I'm surprised that people were bored by this episode. It had some good stuff in it. Any insight into post-island life is pretty fascinating if you ask me.

Oh, and how could I forget... We now know that Rousseau is dead. I think we'll see more of her in a Ben flashback at some point though.

Oh yeah, the Sun Jin Charlotte Faraday stuff was gold. I instantly pegged she understood them talking. Charlotte is still such a cypher character, far moreso than of the other Kahana folk.

HOW THE HELL did Kearny et al survive the Cerebus attack?! What the hell was that?! Did Cerebus just scan them and wander off? I thought Ben called it in for some bloody fury! This was a real disappointment, robbing the last ep of some steam. I guess they want our characters to personally kill them. Lame.

Well, it's official. Rosseau is dead. :( But was it just me or did the two corpses look NOTHING like the actors? And they only died what 24 hours ago?

For the most part, a fair episode at best. I kept thinking....."are they really going to waste one of the last 4 episodes on a stupid appendix story we already know the outcome too....". Imagine my chagrin when the answer was "Yes, yes they are".

Beyond that, there were a few bright moments....like the preview for next week. ;)

Seriously, Jack's dad appearing several different times was cool and raises some more questions. Claire disappearing like she did....leaving the baby....was interesting. Basically I felt like the pieces were put in place so the last episodes could play out and there wasn't much in this one that held my interest.

6.7/10.
