I remember reading kids book when I was much younger - like in the 70's - and the story was about a kid who was going to visit another planet, but there was NO FTL, and sending ships at anywhere NEAR light speed was impossible - so the literally make a *taped* recording of his consciousness and beamed it off to the planet - where it was implanted in a robot duplicate dummy...and then when he was done which is trip the augmented tape of his consciousness, whith the trips memories experiences, was broadcast back to his Earth body....
But I can NOT remember the title or author. Ring a bell to anyone!?
I know that this is a commonly used trope NOW in novels and TV shows - but this was the 70's and kid's lit - and it BLEW MY MIND as a little boy...
I'm sure that I remember it being illustrated...and there was a drawing of a cassette-type tape being put in a robot body. But maybe I imagined it...
