Looking For Good, Uncensored Books on Ancient Mythologies

@JD , I've never read this, so I can't speak to how good it is or whether it will meet your needs (although the reviews generally seem highly favourable). However, I just wanted to mention that the ebook version of the 75th anniversary edition appears to be on sale at both Amazon and Kobo here in Canada, for a limited time. If this one was of any interest to you, it might be worth your while to take a look to see if it is also on sale in the US.
I have read it and it's a good start. Just bear in mind when it was originally written.

E.J.Brills 1,773 page DDD comes in at 4 pounds of ancient reading…

The 12 volume edition of Frazier’s THE GOLDEN BOUGH is a must…if you can get your hands on it.

There's also this one (I was lucky enough to get it used): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/187873.Mythology?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=HR7Jh67QRB&rank=1

For Irish myths, this is the "gold standard": https://www.goodreads.com/book/show...s?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=6lwphOTiMi&rank=4

Most of the Norse myths come to us from this: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24658.The_Prose_Edda

I don't know much about Egyptian mythology, but looking around, this is the one I'd buy: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show...arch=true&from_srp=true&qid=5yIyZ5sQPb&rank=1

The Diné (known as the Navajo) actually have a lot of info online:

Have fun!
The first one is way out of the price range I was going for, but I'll keep the rest of those in mind.

I've come across that one a few times in my earlier searches, but it's not on sale here.
EDIT: Anyone know anything about this one, Oxford Companion to World Mythology? I was looking through the preview on Amazon and it looks pretty good. Or these Mythology: A Captivating Guide to Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology, Celtic Mythology, and Roman Mythology.

Seconded on Hamilton's book. That was the main text in my college mythology class.

When it comes to European mythology, there are a lot of heavy tomes from the 19th to early 20th centuries available for free on Google books and archive.org as well as Project Gutenberg. For example, Myths & legends of the Celtic Race by T.W. Rolleston: https://archive.org/details/mythslegendsofc00roll/mode/2up

Just keep in mind that some of the stuff in the introductory sections and the footnotes of such books may not be completely in line with current scholarship. Many writers of that time were influenced more by cultural nationalism, in trying to reconstruct a glorious past, or something (even the very notion of a "Celtic race" in the above title is outdated). And more recent translations of the old stories may be better in terms of accuracy, and readability for modern audiences.

Edit: added mention of Project Gutenberg. Can't believe I forgot about that!

Yeah, like I said, I got *very* lucky on that big one!

I'm not familiar with the other two, but Oxford Companions in general are very good.
