Looking for data confirmation. PIcard S3 only ranks 46th on P+?

Picard season 3 is currently #8 on the list of shows viewed through Prime Video Channels in the USA. Source is logging on to Prime on the computer and it has this list under Top 10 in Channels in the USA. I'm not sure how frequently a new list is generated (weekly, daily, hourly, etc..). So this would be people who have the Paramount + channel through Prime Video and watch the show through Prime instead of through the Paramount + app.

1. BMF (Starz)
2. Power Book II (Starz)
3. Mayor of Kingstown (Paramount +)
4. Your Honor (Showtime)
5. 1923 (Paramount +)
6. Godfather of Harlem (MGM+)
7. Bay (Britbox)
8 Star Trek: Picard (Paramount +)
9. Zatma (BET +)
10. The Last of Us (HBOMAX)

There is just too much content being produced now and too many platforms. It was bound to hit a saturation point eventually. People can't watch it all or subscribe to it all.....
Exactly. The streaming boom was fed by cheap investor capital and Netflix setting off an arms race. Unfortunately the quality of the Peak TV era (roughly the mid 2000s until 2017) couldn't be sustained. Like Uber, streamers were chasing customer numbers without needing to worry about immediate profit. Then the pandemic resulted in a slow down in production, causing Disney+ and HBO Max to launch prematurely.

I've been jumping around different streaming services. It's easy to get a free trial here, or sign up for a month or two and then clear out the backlog of the shows I'm most interested in, then move on. DEXTER: NEW BLOOD or the PARTY DOWN revival or SUCCESSION returning? Time Showtime or Starz of HBO Max to catch the tail end of the season live and see what else I might like to watch during that time that's a lower priority. Get Disney+ one month a year to check out what new Star Wars or MCU stuff might be somewhat interesting. Netflix? Who cares while I can still share a relative's password...

PICARD season 3 is my first "must watch live episode to episode" streaming content in several years. Hopefully Paramount+ will get the message of what kind of Star Trek catches a broad yet dedicated audience.

Because one or two or a handful of people online say they "must watch it!?"

:wtf:

Not just one or two people online saying it, but many people online actually doing it by staying up till Midnight (or waking up early) to watch new episodes live, lots of activity on Twitter, even show producers staying awake as well to respond to early comments...

That's not going to make them money right now.

Ae get Amazon Prime through having Prime (basically pays for itself), HBO Max through our cell phone service (basically pays for itself), AppleTV+ through our Apple One package which includes premium news, games, storage and some smart home stuff we use (basically pays for itself), and we have annual subscriptions for Disney+ and Paramount+. The only service we pay for monthly that isn’t bundled in with something else is Netflix. And frankly, I’d get rid of that in a hot second but my wife watches way too much on that service.

I don't think many of the people would invest so much time if it was completely futile. Word of mouth should pick up at least a few new subs, plus it's much nice to invest fan energy into something positive rather than negative for once.

Meanwhile I'm really looking forward to 306 tonight. Apparently it has some extra for the legacy continuity crowd :)

Don't mistake me that I don't think there is a small bump up in interest. I just don't think the current economic climate allows for this follow up that more effervescent fans are calling for. Nor do I think that if it was announced people would watch.

Call me cynical, but 10 years of retail experience has taught me that what people say they will buy and what they will buy are two way different things.

I'm sure there are people watching this season *only* because it features the TNG cast. Would they watch another Kurtzman produced if they haven't liked anything else, even SNW?

They would not. The TNG cast provides that "in the feels" appeal that many (note I am not calling out anyone on this board) crave. I prefer to call it the "tickling the ears" approach.

Likely some, yes. But at least there are also calls for a Captain Shaw spinoff, so the positive reception can't be down entirely to nostalgia. And, there are many people that aren't fans of SNW but are of Shaw (for several, the tone and outside-of-1966/2005-continuity make SNW a tough sell).

I consider Discovery to be a failure as it did not last 7 seasons. Even the diversive Voyager lasted 7 seasons. Yes, streaming has changed the game but I expected ST:D to last 7 seasons in the current political climate. Maybe the cast refused to take a paycut?

If they continue to axe running Trek shows and stop implementing new concepts, we may easily end up in a situation where new Trek content is solely animated.

We might have to face the fact that the Star Trek franchise just isn’t strong enough to warrant new live-action tv shows or big budget movies.

The only obvious viewer choice is the cancellation of Woke Trek in favor of nostalgia and a kick-ass crew (and especially a kick-ass captain).

That makes TOS even more of a failure then, it only got to 3.

I guess Stranger Things is a failure too since despite being one of the most popular streaming shows ever, it only got five seasons.

How can you expect any streaming show to go to seven seasons...?!

That's...not how this works. At all.

And that's...bad?
