Looking at clouds

Miss Chicken

Little three legged cat with attitude
Admiral
Earlier today. I was bored while standing at the bus-stop so I decided to look at the clouds and see what they looked like. I saw one that looked like a T Rex having a fight with a giant crab! None of the other clouds looked like anything special.

I find it a lot easier to find shapes in clouds than see anything in the stars. Some of the ancients must have had better imaginations than me to see bulls, and fish, and archers etc in the stars.

Do you ever look for such things?

Yesterday I saw a cloud that looked like a penis. The day before, I saw a cloud that looked like a pair of buttocks. Last month I saw a cloud that looked like a vulva.

God must have a dirty mind. :)

Sounds like this old joke

A man goes to a psychiatrist. To start things off, the psychiatrist suggests they start with a Rorschach test. He holds up the first picture and asks the man what he sees.

"A man and a woman making love in a park," the man replies.

The psychiatrist holds up the second picture and asks the man what he sees. "A man and a woman making love in a boat."

He holds up the third picture. "A man and a woman making love at the beach." This goes on for the rest of the set of pictures; the man says he sees a man and a woman making love in every one of the pictures.

At the end of the test, the psychiatrist looks over his notes and says, "It looks like you have a preoccupation with sex."

And the man replies, "Well, you're the one with the dirty pictures."

Sounds like this old joke <snip>
That joke is what I had in mind. A variation on a theme, if you will.

Actually, I was going to post “I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now,” but I figured we could use a break from jokey song lyric threads.

I'm looking out the window at the clouds right now. There's one that looks like a bunny. There's one that looks like a mountain. There's one that looks like a car. There's one that looks like an asteroid....

....uh oh. :(

I am reminded of the recent thread here where some folks have seen a downed spaceship (perhaps even U.S.S. Voyager) in the pattern of sunlit hills and crater shadows on the surface of Mars!

I think our human minds (probably animal minds, also!) have evolved in such a way to notice and even search out recognizable patterns in our surroundings, whether the critter or other object that the pattern resembles is actually there or not. It is probably a survival mechanism that has developed over time. Probably not as critical a skill as it once was (for most of us), but it is a nice bit of creative fun for anyone (young or old) who allows themselves to occasionally slow their pace down enough to enjoy looking around!

It's a phenomenon known as pareidolia.

Sadly, I do not spend enough time outdoors during the day to sit and look at clouds. I wish I did. Sometimes, when I get stuck sitting somewhere, the tiles on the floor will morph into faces and such. Occasionally, a wooden bench or pew will give me a moments entertainment. They always seem to have some face struggling to get out.

I agree about the stars completely. I never really understood how someone could look at, say, the Belt of Orion and see an actual belt. The big dipper, sure, but the rest of it, not so much.

Don't feel too bad. They had more than a little bit of time on their hands to see what they did. Its not like one guy looked at the other and said, "Well Ug, that's enough for me tonight. I'm gonna head home and catch CSI." ;)

Not the 2000 year old man, no.

I used to look at the shapes in the clouds with my Grannie when I was a kid. We'd lie on her back lawn on windy days and watch them for ages.

This pic might not really fit, but the thread made me think of it. Took it last summer.

When I'm checking the mail, or when I'm taking out the trash, and I have a moment, I like to look up and watch the clouds. They play music for me.
