Anyone else think the Hirogen make-up was, well, cute? They had a certain teddy-bear-like quality to them that I thought made them endearing. At the same time, I thought their armor was rather wicked.
^ Agreed--very good call. The Hirogen were one of my favorite Delta Quadrant aliens. I liked the transition from the original version to the updated one in "The Killing Game." The closure at the end of the 2-parter was pretty final... but it would have been nice to witness another encounter, perhaps the Hirogen getting their butts kicked by someone else and Voyager steps in to help.
What versions are you referring to? The only ones I could tell of were the really BIG Hirogen we saw in their first episode and the regular human-sized ones.
I always wondered if TNG's Nausicaans were meant to actually be Predators, in a vague and unofficial manner. Coz they can't all be hunting hapless humans (and a few Aliens that Sigourney Weaver missed) all the time. Some have to be... y'know... accountant Predators and electrician Predators and lawyer Predators.
At first I thought the Hirogen were just knock off Predators, but over time I came to like them a lot more. They are Predator derivatives, but still pretty cool in their own right, with the armor, ships, and weapons. They were formidable villains, and VOY handled their development fairly well. I liked their reptilian look, but I wouldn't consider it cuddly.
Yeah, there were two versions represented. The first appeared larger than your average humanoid, with the next about a tallish human size. Unless the first were much larger in appearance due to their bulky armor.
