London... via Oxford

And you thought Liverpool John Lennon was an odd name...

A row has started over Oxford Airport which changed its name to London Oxford Airport despite being about 60 miles away from the capital.

The airport in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, said it hoped the rebranding would raise its international profile.

Tony Joyce, of Oxford Civic Society, said: "I think it's absurd. Changing the name will only mislead people."

However, Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce said it was a "good idea" which could benefit the whole region.
It could have been worse. We could have had London Edinburgh airport. :wtf: (Of course, some might argue that this has already happened. :p)

Well, the Denver, Colo., airport is, like, halfway to Kansas. Mind you, there isn't a lot between Denver and Kansas, which presumably isn't true for the area between Oxford and London.

A friend of a friend recently lost his luggage at John Lennon Airport. He apparently twittered: "... imagine no possessions...". :D

As for "London Oxford", I lol'ed when I heard this earlier. To be fair, Kidlington airport is pretty much a private/business flights only airport, so it's not as if you'd get people who were unaware of the distances involved arriving, but as an example of branding it does border on the silly.

Anyway, I was certainly surprised to learn today that I live in London rather than Oxford...

For a spur of the moment comment, I was pretty impressed that he kept his sense of humour to be honest! :D

But can they still hear the Bow bells? ;)

As the great bell once said, I don't know. ;)

Mind you it does make some sense. I mean, have you ever seen Inspector Morse and Jack Regan in the same room together? :bolian:

Eh, I don't think it's any worse than Washington Dulles.....well, maybe slightly, but it's a matter of degree.
