Love the original film, but a well crafted second crack at the story, especially if it's not a remake but another attempt at the book would be awesome.

for pictures of the covers, etc. I read them all. Book 2 wasn't bad-book 3 was interesting but far-fetched(based on the original premise as "mainstream").

Nostalgia aside, though, the old movie pretty much falls apart after Logan returns to the City. The entire city blows up because the Central Computer can't process the fact that Sanctuary doesn't exist? Never mind that the idea that a super-computer will blow up if you mess with its logic was already a cliche from umpteen old STAR TREK episodes, it's a quick and silly deus ex machina that doesn't require Logan to do anything more than submit to a silly-looking laser light show to bring down his entire civilization.
I still watch the old movie for old time's sake (and, okay, Jenny Agutter), but there's certainly room for a new-and-improved version. It's not like were talking a timeless classic here . . . .

^Yeah, it's like the Steven Soderbergh take on things (when promoting Ocean's 11). Don't remake a classic, you'll never improve it. Remake an average or poor movie - that way, you stand a chance of making it better.
Exactly. LOGAN'S RUN is the perfect candidate for a remake. It's a fondly remembered oldie, with some cool ideas, that hasn't really aged well . . . .
In a sense, the original film was the last major sci-fi movie before STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS basically raised the bar for big-budget sf blockbusters. We all loved it as teens because it was pretty much the only game in town after the PLANET OF THE APES series winded down (and much racier than our parents realized), but it was never as good as people remember it.

This excites me as well. The 28 movies have been pretty good, and despite its flaws, Sunshine was halfway decent. Millions is probably his best script to date, though. The addition of Garland and Rinsch as director (after seeing his short film The Gift) make me excited for this iteration of Logan's Run.
I liked 28 Days Later, but not the sequel or The Beach. So I'm interested to see script talk indeed.
I don't think the end of Logan's Run holds up either, probably because they went for destruction rather than adhering to the book. Yes its due, but I hope the good of the film and spirit of the book remain. I just hope it isn't destroyed and isn't something that's remotely unlike the original. Like Burton's Planet of the Apes, you don't instantly recognize it as being associated with the original at all.

There's no way they're going to allow that much unholstered jiggly boobie in a modern movie.
Boy, we sure had it good in the 70s. Nobody gave a second thought to erect nipples and bouncy boobies. Modern audiences have no clue what they've missed.

You know, I'd love to see a director with style take this on, like say, Christopher Nolan? I bet he could make a kickass version of Logan's Run. But it seems like this is another production with a revolving director's door. I really like the original movie, but if someone like Nolan were to take this on, he could make it really interesting, and it does seem to be right up his alley, and it would be one of the few directors I could trust with making a remake that isn't a remake just for the sake of it.
I'm guessing it's an adaptation of the old Frank Miller graphic novel, which had nothing to do with the Robert DeNiro crime film you may be thinking of . . . .
I saw Logan's Run when it was released in theatres and quite liked it then. I was 17 at the time. I hadn't seen it since until I picked up the DVD about a year or so ago. I was quite prepared for a shock after all those years and I got one: I thought that while the film now looked dated I also found it was still a good story with good ideas.
