It seems all but confirmed. 18 year-old actor Logan Lerman, who had been rumored to be a contender for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the new reboot, is apparently now the top contender and according to HitFix "almost 100% locked" to replace Tobey Maguire as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Lerman, whose biggest role to date has been in Chris Columbus' fantasy epic Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief which came out earlier this year, beat out actors Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Jessie Eisenberg (Zombieland), Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous) and Johnny Simmons (Jennifer's Body).
This new iteration of Spider-Man as yet untitled is to be directed by Marc Webb of (500) Days of Summer fame and has been solely written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Losers). Spider-Man swings into theaters July 3rd, 2012.
Now, I remember first recommending him way before he was even considered. Not that I want to take credit or anything (
), but I've been a fan of Lerman ever since he played a young George Hamilton in My One and Only. He has looks and talent, plus he fits the appropriate age for a high school Peter Parker.
