Location Shooting Reveals Some Of The TARDIS Interior

This shot doesn't make sense to me. When you see the TARDIS interior from the outside through the doors like that, isn't that something that is added in post-production? Doesn't make sense that this would actually be visible during shooting. Unless I'm misunderstanding how they achieve the look?

Mr Awe

For New Who they've had a photo of the interior physically inside the police box prop. It's a lot cheaper and simpler than trying to add it in post.

Remember that this is what they've often put at the back wall and lit it from the outside. What we'll ultimately see is actually the recverse of this image - not that it makes much of a difference.

Looks fine to me... Not blue as reported, nor with a spiral staircase, though it does look like there's a second, gallery level that looks down to the main console with a staircase down to it. However there are still dangly bits around and the whole thing still looks somewhat messy. Perhaps the console room is an evolving thing through Smith's first series? That fixing the thing isn't so easy as Alt-Ctrl-Desktopchange?

Well, as said, is this view actually from the front door or from the rear of the prop. If its from the rear, which it looks as if it was as there are no Police Box signs ;), then the upper level is still the same from RTDs Tardis, just on an inverted, warped looking side. Also, the roundels would be inverted like this if its viewed from the opposite angle to what it is supposed to be viewed at, as is the case if this from the rear. View it from the other side at the right angle, i bet it looks like RTDs Tardis.

But...

Take a look at this closeup shot of the prop: http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s110/Scootyboy/21st%20October%202009%20Matt%20Smith%20Llanwonno%20Church/DSCF0612.jpg

That looks new and re-designed to me, especially the top of the set, where the time rotor thingy reaches the top of the room. The stairs look as if they go into an adjacent room above the console. It still looks similar though, but we wont know until we see Eleven walking through it after a re-decoration.

Who knows.

I was looking forward to seeing the new console room. I liked the idea/rumour that it would have some elements of the classic console room. I'm tired of the coral look. But then again, until it airs (or we get some good set photos) we've really no clue.

Looks good! Dare I say the rondels are back? I like the staircase... a second floor of the console room seems like a good idea.

Interesting that the glowing white windows hearkens back to 10's TARDIS rather than the unlit black & white ones we've seen so far of 11's.

I still prefer the 8th Doctor's motif.

And while we're on the subject...shouldn't each new doctor have a new motif much like a new set of clothes? Updated RTD-style Tardis is one thing. But each new Doctor having a new desktop theme is another.

New clothes. New screwdriver. New desktop theme.

It's only a tiny glimpse and not enough to get a full image - but it's enough to intrigue me.

I wonder if the stairs lead to another door, rather than just another level as the ceiling seems too close from that painting. Ach well, I'll know in a few months. Though, interesting evolution of the look instead of starting from scratch.

On the OG forums someone posted a sketch of the console room, SUPPOSEDLY taken from one person's 15-second peek at the set. I highly doubt this (more likely they just extrapolated from this picture), but the attempt looks pretty damned cool IMO. Looking forward to seeing it.

Just found this on Live journal....take it all as speculation and rumor, but its there for those who want to read it.

New TARDIS Interior? - Speculation/Possible Spoilers

A member on DWF just posted this. It may or may not be true. Time will tell...

NOTE: Usually, when spoilers are found to be true, the people "in the know"/behind the scenes contact the forum to ask for things to be removed. And the thread which contained this has been removed. Make of that what you will.

Hi all,

I used to post at OG a little, but decided to move on when it closed. However I had to come here to post this as I don't believe there's been any concrete news on the new TARDIS set as yet? My friend works for a company who the BBC outsource a lot of their back office work to, he and a few others were today given a tour of BBC facilities in Wales which included a peek at the new set. He's generously allowed me to post his email to me, obviously any names/ sensitive specifics will be altered!!

Had "the tour" today, managed to get a few photos but they're not the best as we were under pretty close scrutiny as you can imagine - we all had to hand camera phones etc on the way in.

The set is on 2 levels, joined by a spiral staircase, but is not as big as I'd thought. It's apparently finished though sections of it seem to be missing at present. We saw the console room, a lab area, a sort of sitting room area, a fairly long section of corridor leading nowhere and numerous other little nooks and crannies. The console room reminds me of a new and shiny version of the old one, except the roundels are very simple and basic looking, simply spherical dents in the walls.

These new style roundels are featured throughout the whole set, though not on every wall. Back to the console room - mainly golds and silvers and the coral theme has been replaced with a smooth marble like finish. Also the room is not circular, it's a kind of hexagon-joined-to-a-square shape, the hexagon bit containing the console, which to me looked like the same console they've used throughout the series except with new buttons and blinky lights, though apparently it's entirely new. Your beloved hatstand was still there but no sign of the interior doors, also there was no ceiling to the set - could be that these bits are meant to be there but were missing from the set for some reason I suppose.

Apparently the whole set has been designed in a modular way, so things can be moved and double as other parts of the ship. The roundels are different colours in each area, gold for the console room, silver/grey/blue in the lab, brown in the sitting room. The roundels can be removed/swapped out or even turned around completely to be convex rather than concave, in order to become a different area. I'll forward some photos and more info shortly...

How do we know that an acurate matte image placed in the Tardis in thos pics? I'm guessing they put a generic matte image in the Tardis for principle shots, then replace it with a CGI live action element in editing.

Wasn't that the same description posted here a little while ago?

As for the matt paintings - you can generally tell it's just a painting. Though no idea if they spice it up in the edits.

I'm guessing they figure it's cheaper to have a practical photo blowup of the set in the back instead of compositing a shot in. it's a pretty simple solution, so why not?

True and they only need to add the cgi if you have more head on shots of the Tardis, like the doctor talking in front of the tardis with the door open etc..

ere is a shot from the other thread of them carring the matte around.

Here were some shots I took from another thread where I was discussing "CGI backdrop and Matte painting"

You can clearly see in "The Runaway Bride" its a backdrop because it only covers the back panel. The sides are clearly just black

No, they wouldn't do that. If they were going to replace the matte painting in post, they wouldn't use a matte painting. They would use a blue screen or a green screen background. The matte painting is too complicated, which would make it too costly and time-consuming to replace.
