Lloyd Bridges KIRK/McGarrett

According to the extras on the 5-0 disks, Lord also did Hawaii a huge favor. He apparently adopted the state and helped develop tourism, build the film industry there, etc. Although I wouldn't be surprised if the 1/2-second shot of Miss hawaii 1959 in the opening credits helped tourism just as much.

I have all the 5-0 DVDs released thus far. It was a great show. But yeah, they said it like that. They said that Jack Lord was hard on them, but he had to be since they had never had TV productions on that scale in Hawaii before. He made sure the sets were done right, the lighting, the acting, everything.

They appreciated his detailed work manner because after Five-0 went down, most of them were picked up for Magnum PI. And even today some of them work on LOST.

Funny thing....Do you remember the 'cave' on the LOST? Its when some of them lived on the beach, but some migrated to that cave for a while? Well, that cave was not real, it was a set. And it was built on the soundstage where McGarrett's office stood for all those years...

Makes ya wonder how Star Trek would've wound up if Lord had signed on. He may have been a pain in the ass, but he clearly took his position as leading man seriously, and wasn't about to be part of a crappy production.

As an addendum, startrekhistory.com is back up and running, and one of the items to be found is Roddenberry's contract with Desilu.

It turns out that Roddenberry only had a 37 1/2% ownership of Star Trek to begin with (Desilu had 50%), so there wasn't another 50% to give Jack Lord, even if they wanted to.
