Lit moments that made you cheer?

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
In the vein of the "There's something in my eye." thread...

Anybody been reading a Trek book and had moments that made them cheer?

Some of mine would be in Unity, when Sisko returns, or Q-Squared, when Picard is fencing with Trelane.

Anybody else?

First thing I thought of when I read the thread title was 'Unity'. Very satisfying to get the Captain back.

Sisko's return in Unity I re-read that book recently it was a neat way they had him return:bolian:

Oh, lots. A good novel should align the reader's sympathies with the characters, and since the characters tend to be victorious in most of their outings, I often get elated right along with them. Cheer out loud, no; but maybe a little whispered "Yessss!"

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I cheered at one point during Q&A... or at the very least shouted, "Yes!" Data-style... but for the life of me I can't remember when. It wasn't the ending, which was unusual.

Huh.

I always loved Calhoun's "Let's kick the gods' asses" speech to pump up the crew in God's Above.

Sisko's return was hardly a surpise given the cover. I spent the whole book thinking "right so when does Sisko come back?"

when Klag and co get word that Worf and Martok have arrived at San-Tarah and the butthole General is in deep poo-doo

when Tal'aura is refused aid by Nan Bacco in AOTF over thwarting the IRS led by Donatra

Articles... had plenty, every time Bacco is the scene mainly

CoE had loads when Corsi is facing the Ferengi, or Sonya against Tev

Vanguard has a few too, Oriana's heartfelt "up yours" to the Tholians elicited a tear and a cheer.

So many more.

President Bacco declaring that it is never okay to imprison someone without charge or due process of the law.

Sisko coming back in Unity

Taran'atar offing the Hirogen in Demons...

Prynne nearly offing Taran'atar in Warpath

Sisko setting off the EM blast in Fallen Heroes

The only one that comes immediately to mind is Sisko's return, but I think there were some in Vaguard too, because that series has had all sorts of thrilling moments. But usually it's either just me thinking wow, or maybe just closing the book so I can absorb what just happened.

Well it wasn't cool because it was surprising. It's like the main character underdogs in a sports movie. You know that nine times out of ten they're going to win in dramatic fashion but you don't root for them any less when it eventually happens.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Scotty stealing the Yorktown in Crossover by Michael Jan Friedman. I should be so blessed ever to write (or co-write) a scene so incredibly cool. I remember just where I was when I read it -- then flipped backward to read it again immediately. It's my favorite moment in Star Trek fiction. (Okay, well, favorite that I didn't have a hand in.)

Mine aren't so much a 'cheer' or a verbal "yes!" moment but these books had me either at the end of the book or at some point within, actually stopping holding the book with a stunned expression and simply saying "Wow!"

DS9: Millennium
Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind
Vanguard: Harbinger
Mirror Universe: Sorrows of Empire
Voyager: Echoes

and not Trek but it was just that damned good also:
The Psi Corp trilogy of the Babylon 5 series. Just thinking about this one and DS9 Millennium still make we think "WOW."

The entire book Warpath, Vulcan's Heart, The Good That Men Do, Unity, Age Of The Empress, The Sorrows Of Empire, Saturn's Children, Enterprises Of Great Pitch And Moment, A Time To Kill, Heal, ...For War; A Time For Peace (might as well group these together), Articles Of The Federation, Titan: Taking Wing

Vulcan's Heart. :techman:

The whole thing, really, but especially these bits:

- Pretty much any scene with Ruanek. Is he cool, or what?

- When the Honor Blade (I love that name!) joins the battle at Narendra III and fights alongside the Enterprise-C. I love that one line that Captain Garrett had - something about "when we're through, the Romulan language will be spoken only in hell!"

I just finished The Sorrows of Empire. Yeah, that's on the list now. That's some damn fine work.
