For about a month straight one of the neighbors form the next block was blaring fucking "My Heart Will Go On" on a loop. And when I say blaring I mean, if you've never lived in a Dominican neighborhood in Brooklyn you can't comprehend how loud music can get, and when I say "on a loop" I mean it literally: the same damn song 5, 6, 7 times in a row, every day FOR A MONTH! So yeah, that was in my head for a while.
Lately, though, and more pleasantly (if sadder), I've had the beautiful song, "If I Give Your Name," stuck in my head. I saw a friend I hadn't seen in years last week, who lost her daughter on September 11th, and that song came into my head. It had been years since I'd heard it, and I could only remember bits, "Mi esposa, my wife, worked on the 80th floor, the company had hired illegals before/ she got the job by word of mouth/ that's the way in the north when you're from the south/ They say 3,000, well the counting's not done/ Mi esposa esta muerta, three thousand and one....
I couldn't even remember the name of the song, so had to do some major searching before I could listen to it and get it out of my head.
