Listen to the music playing in your head....

Zulu Romeo

World Famous Starship Captain
Admiral
Inspired by the Wikipedia entry for "Earworm" :guffaw: and also this moment in TrekBBS history, I was reminded recently about music that enters through the ear and wraps itself around the cerebral cortex... later causing madness.... and maybe death too. (Lie.)

It's all about music you can't get out of your head.

For me, the last piece of music that did that was one of the famous United State of Pop mashups, created by the coincidentally-named DJ Earworm.

So, do you suffer from earworm? What sort of music has you clutching your temples and screaming "ARRRRGGGHHH NOW IT'S IN MY HEAD"? And how do you get it out of your head?

Indeed, what's on your mind's Now Playing list right now?

I have a tune in my head most of the time. Currently it's not an actual song, it's some guitar stuff I've been practicing recently.

(Bm Pentatonic solos with occasional Dorian excursions, actually. Vanilla stuff. :D)

A picture of Dorian grey scales. Excellent. :bolian:

There is a near-constant theme or soundtrack running in my head.
Usually, it's my own creation. However, there are times when I play lots of other music.

Current:
"In Sorti Diaboli" by Dimmu Borgir

Previous:
"Theme from Jurassic Park" by John Williams
"Oceanic" by BOND
"I See You" by Leona Lewis
"Theme from Bicentennial Man" by James Horner
"The Voice" by The Moody Blues

At one of my schools they play a truly horrible Japanese techno dance song while the kids exercise every morning. It's the same song every day, and it has been lodged in my brain for weeks now. I have no idea what the name of the song is, and I am content not knowing. At this point, I would be happy if any other song would take its place.

Right now, U2's "Magnificent" is in my brain right now, but only the chorus and bits from the first two verses. I know it's totally a result of hearing the song twice yesterday--once on their recent album and later that night performed live on VH-1 Classic last night...

"The Times They Are A-Changin", the version they used in the penultimate episode of Boston Legal, because I stupidly looked it up and downloaded it after I saw the episode. Now It's stuck in my head.

"The Washington Post March." Sousa seems to get stuck in my head frequently, and I whistle it quite a lot, too, for some reason.

For some reason over the years I have often woken in the morning to "Raspberry Barrett" by Prince playing in the background of my mind. I can't explain why. I have never cared for the song. It just seems to be the go to song for that background process. (and it is definitely a background process in my case, never having consciously been thinking about it)

A lot of the songs that get stuck in my head from time to time are from semi-obscure Broadway musicals of the 1950s and ’60s. Another recurring earworm of mine is Abba's “Dancing Queen.”

And the funny thing is, I'm not even gay!

You can dance, you can jive
Having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene
Digging the dancing queen . . .

Shit, there it goes again!

Right now I have the theme to the game Zetrix running through my head.

"California Girls"

I hate Katy Perry's shitty songs.

Also, for the longest while it was Luckenbach, Texas. That was preferable to Perry's tune.

I get stuff stuck in my head all the time. Currently, it's "The Well" by Salem 66. The song is completely nonsensical (in true '80's fashion), but it's so catchy.
