Lis Sladen

This sort of makes "Death of the Doctor" more poignant

This literally came out of the blue. No rumor or mumblings of cancer. Nothing.

At least we knew Nicholas Courtney was sick

I can't begin to describe how deeply shocked and upset I am by this very tragic news. God, I almost feel like crying.
:(

It's weird, I was only watching K-9 & Company and series 3 of SJA earlier today....

This is awful. Elisabeth Sladen was a delightful actress, and she managed to bring real gravity to the role of Sarah Jane. It's awful for her, for her family and loved ones, and for the cast and crew of The Sarah Jane Adventures and her young fans. :(

I have to say I'm absolutely gutted by this news... She was my first companion and I had a deep crush on her as a youngster...

Can't believe this is true. So, so sad...

I was fully expecting this to be another false tabloid rumor upon clicking on the thread. I have to say, I really wish it was. This is both shocking and sad.

May Lis Sladen's adventures continue on a grander plane.

This is from another board.

Do you think they'll still screen what they managed to shoot of Series 5?

Probably; I hadn't seen Series 4 so I don't know if it ended on a cliffhanger, but SJA stories tend to be stand-alones so if they managed to complete a couple of storylines I can't see why they wouldn't air them.

All that said, I saw one blog suggest no Series 5 episodes were made because of her illness, but that's not what I recall reading in the filming reports. We'll hear fairly soon. If they didn't end up filming any Series 5 episodes after all, the title of the Series 4 finale will be even more poignant.

I'm not sure I can go to work. This is just horrible. Rest In Peace Lis, you brought so much joy to so many.

AIUI three episodes were shot, then filming pushed back until May...

Watching Pyramids of Mars now for some random SJS goodness (and the late Michael Sheard as well, who I knew better)

I realise this might sound a bit cruel to some, but part of me hopes that if they had filmed any Series 5 episodes, they don't show them. It would just be too painful to watch, knowing she died so shortly after. :(

Sarah Jane was my favorite companion and it was because of how Liz played as being so human. She had been sick ofr while but she remained a beautiful woman. :(

I just don't know what to do now. This is terrible. And she was still doing so much in the Who-verse.

I didn't even know she was sick :( SUCH horrible news and R.I.P Lis.

I hope she gets a mention farewell in the show

The BBC isn't going to throw the money they spent on the SJA episodes down the drain like that, not in this time of austerity and budget cutbacks. The BBC broadcast the final season of Father Ted, even though Dermot Morgan died the day after filming the final episode, after all. I don't see anything insensitive about an autumn broadcast of the episodes.
