Like father like son (Cirroc's performance)

When actors work on a show together for years, it's often easy to mimic one another's mannerisms, speech patterns, etc. But even early on, Cirrroc Lofton was really able to channel some Avery Brooks into his performance as Sisko's son Jake. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching someone who actually is related to Brooks.

Starting that young in the series, there is certainly a sense of family and kinship that develops, and it really paid off with those 2 actors and how they delivered their performances. Jake definitely grew as an individual character, but there was usually a good balance of family and uniqueness that helped produce one of the most dynamic & compelling parent-child examples in any of the ST series. Much love for both of them!

I liked the relationship between Benjamin and Jake Sisko. They had more chemistry than Beverly and Wesley ever had. I also liked that Jake followed another path, not following in his father's footsteps of a Starfleet career.
Also special was Jake's friendship with Nog. A Ferengi attending Starfleet Academy was something different. Nog had to win Benjamin Sisko's support and he fought sucessfully for it. Nice storyarc.

Yeah, most of Beverly and Wesley's interactions seemed to be in passing, while each of them was headed somewhere else, and nothing of much substance. I wanted to chalk it up to her being more of a side character than what Sisko was for DS9, but Worf & Alexander seemed to fit in more development in a much shorter amount of time than Beverly & Wesley did.

It was a nice twist, as you mentioned, that the Starfleet son became a writer, and the bartender's son became an officer. The episode "The Visitor" was a touching look at how much Benjamin wanted his son to be able to forge his own path. I'll always love that episode.
