Light Sabres and Death Star Weapon Question

Robert Simmons

Commander
Red Shirt
Something just occurred to me that I am sure others may have thought of before me here. Question is what I hear light sabres are powered by the Khyber crystals and the same for the Death Star weapon. So my question is....is this a natural progression and a escalation of the technology? Or is the Empire trying to make a statement with using the same technology to cement control over the Empire that the Jedis used to protect the Republic? Is this not a irony here?

Thoughts?

When used correctly, kyber crystals massively amplify and focus any power fed into them, so they make otherwise impossibly powerful weapons feasible. There's no statement here or really much of a technological progression since it's implied the Death Star is based on ancient Sith superweapons like the one on Malachor.

Thank you. It struck me odd the Empire with the Death Star was destroying planets with a light saber on steroids. It jumped out at me and I wondered if there was anything to it.
