Life Lessons from Star Trek: Voyager

- Even in a stressful and urgent situation, there will always be time for dialog exchange that pertains to character growth. The threat will be courteous enough to wait with escalating till the point has been made.

- The hardest way to tackle a situation is the way to go. For example, in Cathexis, you're disembodied Chakotay, and when you first find out you can take over others and make them push buttons, of course your first course of action isn't sending Janeway a brief message with: 'Chakotay here. <authorisation code>. Tuvok dangerous alien', no, you just take obscure sabotage options, and only when they don't cut it anymore and all lives are at stake you get the idea to take some action that will uniquely identify the 'alien presence' as being you (by ejecting the warp core).

- Death is rarely irreversible if only you're important enough. Provided you're a main character, you'll practically always get a second/third/etc chance to avoid your own death or that of a fellow main character.

-Taking a huge risk is always worth it. When you encounter a set of bullies whose terrain you could avoid even though it would add months to your journey, you'll refuse to settle for that and you'll just take the shortcut through their territory even though there are thousands of them and you have just one ship (The Swarm). When you encounter the Borg, you'll refuse to settle for anything less than destroying their transwarp hub and getting home at the same time, even though the plan is extremely risky (Endgame). In order to rid yourself of some pesky aliens on board, it's OK to slingshot around a set of pulsars, even though the survival odds of that action are 5% at best (Scientific Method). And so on.
