Lie to me

Is this worth getting on DVD? It's not likely to be available on freeview channels in the UK.

I'm a big Tim Roth fan but I'd like some opinions before I part with my pennies.

I managed to watch an episode the other day and I really liked it, I think the (half) episode I watched was worth buying the DVD for.

I really enjoyed the show--probably my favorite new show from the last television season.

I think one of the keys to liking this show is to have NOT seen every Law & Order, CSI or every other procedural out there, which is a group I fall into. There's enough originality and good cast chemistry that even if you have seen a ton of procedurals, you can still enjoy Lie to Me.

Been very impressed with the previews I've seen on UK TV, I might see how the show does early in season 2 for ratings and pick it up next year or over christmas.

Shawn Ryan, who did the Shield, is coming onto the show as the new showrunner in season two so it could be good.

See I would have taken the lead actor as the showrunner. I'm sure lots of people would. You say 'just the actor' but how good would the show have been without him? How good would House have been without Hugh Laurie?

I can't see House working without Hugh Laurie, I know I'd get bored of it's formulaic plots easily.
I'm not sure about Tim Roth, but he is very good, and he gets to use a British accent at least.

It's just a job title though. The showrunner is the one who makes all the story decisions, among other things.

Tsk Bob! You're 'British'. Since when did any of us have a British accent? That's what those overseas people say.

 I meant as opposed to Hugh who has to pretend to be American because they wanted an America.
I said British because I can't quite place his accent, I'd say London but I'm not quite sure if it is or not.

There are many good things about this show. The science is taken to the limit, but it is there. There was even reference to false positives in an early episode!

Nonetheless, I got very tired of it. I have a low tolerance for "assholes are erotic" television, which this is. Cal Lightman is mean. After an episode where he and his female assistant (which she was, even if the show alleged she was a partner,) faked a quarrel to mislead one of their victims, I found I didn't believe the scene where they acted friendly!

It's a procedural that has actual characters. I like Castle better, but Lie to Me is certainly worth watching. Purchasing? I don't know...
