Lexx

Apparently, the show's themes were intended to promote a progressive social agenda over conservative, traditionalist values. I didn't realise any of that at the time. I just found most of it a bit icky, tacky and silly. I always enjoy hearing the Brunnen-G anthem although that's as much of the show as I want to revisit.

Or both? I haven't watched it in a long time, not sure how I'd think of it today but you'd never mistake it for Farscape or whatever. It's not something you see much outside video games or books.

So it can be streamed on those American sites, but not in Canada where the show was MADE?

That's annoying.
I resorted to downloading the entire show from a torrent site.

Also ordered a used copy of the original Acorn Media DVDs for Series 2 this morning. Hope to get the others before Halloween.

I thought the same and unfortunately it's probably that which made it unavailable with probably different rights to international distribution. Just to rub salt in the wound it's free on the US sites as well (some ads notwithstanding).

This thread got me watching the first one yesterday and Stan has a very Canadian PRO-JECTS pronounciation. I didn't notice any SORE-EEs though. :)

Oh yeah, Stan and Kai's actors were both Canadian. From different areas though, Stan was from Newfoundland and Kai from Ontario.

Patricia Zentilli, who played Laleen/Bunny, comes from Kingston, where I live now. Never met her though.

Nigel Bennett, Prince. He's a Brit who grew up in Toronto. And Walter Borden/His Divine Shadow is a Theater Actor from Halifax, IIRC.

One of the other Shadows was Mr Lahey from Trailer Park Boys.

I've only seen Nigel Bennett as Prince. My mom was watching a movie on the Hallmark Channel and he played the boss in one of their rom coms and it just felt so wrong lol.

He was the voice of Mastermind in the 90s X-Men cartoon too. Of course, that show used mostly Canadian Theater Actors for its cast so it makes sense.

Finished rewatching this great show a few days ago. It ended over twenty years ago. I forgot just how diversely bonkers many of the plotlines are. I love the recurring guest cast, and of course the main cast. Each series is very different in tone. I think 2 is my favourite in terms of striking a balance between seriousness and camp while still have self-contained stories and an overarching plot.

Lexx is probably the most unique and strange sci-fi I've ever seen. And definitely some of what they did way back then couldn't be done today. E.g. alien carrot probes that enter people through their ass.

I'm going to hunt down the original DVDs as they probably have the best quality.

The DVDs I have are from Echo Bridge Home Entertainment. They are in 4:3 NTSC format

I've got all 4 seasons.

Season 1 is on 2 double sided discs that I purchased in 2008.
Season 2 is on 3 single sided discs, that I purchased in 2012.
Season 3 & 4 are together in a box set on 5 single sided discs that I also purchased in 2012.

I see the newer release on Amazon is in one complete 4 season Box set with 9 unnumbered discs inside.

German and Canadian Science Fiction and dark comedy in one package. What's not to like? :D

The Acorn Media discs, which I've gotten underway collecting were released in Canada (and the US?) between 2002-2004. They are now out of print.

Series 2: 5 discs w/ 4 episodes per disc + extras
Series 3: 4 discs w/ 3-4 episodes per disc + extras
Series 4: 6 discs w/ 4 episodes per disc + extras

Here's an example of them on ebay.ca, unfortunately missing a couple volumes: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/134151695165?hash=item1f3c106b3d:g:fW4AAOSwblhiqMV7&amdata=enc:AQAHAAAAsGKCbcV4/CnkMxHnKMbdMLq+RzlFa3MD24yJZoQOIbYksEyJx+KQedcGcwCsHAsueq3kvNYLq5ZerhOjh/6Sadly2j9gb5ex62vM/KreZ1vhHAowGgegbxT8lyQlx1yYzKCjin4+x48eNRvAeB6RXJQBmQFSeQYYrLHkQLXIjXfOIV4M2Boy3rblgX2YoNd1dVI80v9BnUTaw1eBS6h1I82K4orybHC3acV1RCzSkubN|tkp:Bk9SR_rKvpXXYA

Iirc it was co-financied by a German station, and possibly another (Italy?) That probably complicates rights.

It's been a while since I watched this series. Wonderfully weird, doesn't make much sense in places but it still works.

Too bad Eva Habermann wasn't on the show all the way.
