I just hope they can keep advancing on this..

I have a long history with this kind of thing and from where I sit this if it could be made to work would be of great benefit.

Yes there are trials with chips on the retina and stuff. But the vision they provide is shall we say on the level of the game Pong. It's blocky at best. Plus you have to wear an external set of glasses or other appliance. While functional it's not the most practical of setups I could imagine.

This kind of thing if it happens will be much better as it's a direct replacement to the full eye. Hopefully they can find a way to interface to the optic nerve one day too..

God knows that if artificial sight is ever developed, some Star Trek fans will claim that it was inspired by Geordi's VISOR.

Arrrgh!!!!!

Unfortunately true.

So far the most difficult parts to make fully self contained are the heart, eyes, and kidneys.

As someone who is VERY pleased with his teflon aortic arch and carbon graphite heart valve, I am all for augmentation. Bring it on! I expect to practically be a Borg by the time I'm 90.

I hope you don't start assimilating people :)

As soon as robot eyes are available that are on the same level or better than human eyes I'm signing up. My vision is awful and I'd be happy to trade them in.

I disagree. If he wants to give me free cybernetic implants and flawlessly perform the surgery to implant them, bring it on. I am sure that shit would be expensive.
