Let's talk about Christian

Not Dead Christian. Or maybe Dead Christian? Let's face it, this fucker got around. He chatted with Sawyer in a bar. He chatted with Ana Lucia in a bar. He's the father of Jack's long-lost sister. And based on the series finale, he seems to be slightly more omniscient than the rest of our heroes.

We all know Christian died in Australia. We also know that "time is meaningless" in the Afterlifey Flash-Sideways Limbo Dimension. So I wonder if Ghost Christian wandered into the real world and made contact with certain people for some reason or another. Or was it really just coincidence that Christian happened to run into various people from Flight 815?

Also, I hope that made sense. My roommate is watching the show for the first time, and we're nearing the end of Season 2...I've also been drinking tonight. :p

It puts his line "You can go now, Michael" in a different context, I'll grant that.

Your theory does cast doubt over whether the MIB really did pretend to be Christian as he claimed he did. In some cases it would be consistent with his behaviour, as he was trying to deceive or charm the survivors, and also in the context of him impersonating other dead people like Locke, Alex and possibly Yemi. But what if the MIB was lying to Jack and Loopy Claire about this, as part of his plan to get Jack closer to him?

When we finally all get that complete boxed set and do the massive re-watch, "who's Christian this time?" will certainly be one key thing I'll be watching for.

For instance, does it make more sense that the Christian that appeared to Jack the first time on the island was Smokey or Christian's actual ghost, who even then knew how the story would end (there being no such thing as time, and all that). I would have said it was definitely Smokey but now I'm not so sure...

August 24, hurry up! :rommie:

This summer I'm gonna rewatch S4 and S5 on DVD and my number one point of interest is analyzing Christian's appearances. That and Faraday.

It's been plain to me from the beginning that the Christian that Jack followed through the woods wasn't, despite his claims, leading Jack to water. He was trying to get Jack to kill himself by falling off the cliff, eliminating a 'candidate.' Jack just happened to be able to save himself, and so Smoky let him go.

Even Loopy Claire was able to distinguish between "her father" and "her friend - notlocke".

Also, Christian held Aaron and looked lovingly at him - not something I would expect from MIB.

I've been rewatching the whole show, and I just finished Season 4. One of the things I've been really paying attention to is the appearance of dead people and trying to figure out who is Smokey and who is a legitimate ghost. I believe that there are times when Christian is really just Ghost Christian and NOT Smokey.

Yeah, to me it comes down to this...

If the MIB was always appearing as Christian then the MIB (and his master "plan") was retarded. Some of the things Christian does, says and gets the Losties to do would have the exact opposite outcome to what the MIB would want/need to have his plan work (now that we know what his plan was). I mean it was Christian's influence that got the Oceanic Six off the island and rescued. (and, as a bizarre side note, it was Jacob who got some of them to come back). When in fact it was beneficial to Jacob for the six to stay off the Island and safe, while it was totally against the MIB's goals to have them leave and live off the Island since that would put them out of his reach and influence to kill them off.

There are many more example of this. to many to go into, but safe to say I firmly believe that not all of Christian's appearances were do to the MIB. It had to be a real ghost of Christian (or something else appearing as Christian) some of the times.

The way the "ghosts" were handled is one of the more annoying loose threads. Christian as the MiB only makes sense some of the time. Another thing is that I remember the big news a while back was that John Terry was possibly going to be signed as a regular for the sixth season; that makes me wonder if he was originally intended to be the MiB throughout the final year, instead of Locke. Why did the MiB stay put in Locke's form and only begin the endgame of his evil master plan when he had access (or so he claimed) to Christian's form for so long?

He needed someone who was alive at the time of the crash in order to manipulate the others? Especially Ben. Christian was already dead by then.

MiB's motivations are a little confusing, especially when you think of how long he's been on the Island and how many opportunities he's probably had to kill off Jacob's candidates. It makes me wonder if some members of the Dharma Initiative were candidates and if Ben killing all of them was somehow actually MiB's plan.

He probably couldn't have used Christian's form without seriously confusing the hell out of everybody. It was easier to use Locke, who everybody already knew and wouldn't suspect.

Was Locke the first candidate he took the shape of? Could imitating or taking the Ghost Form of a candidate have special meaning? Is that why he got stuck in Locke image?

Ilana's contention that Flocke couldn't change his appearance anymore was perplexing considering we saw him in season five change his appearance after becoming Locke. He appeared to Ben as Alex.

I thought he couldn't change appearance (except for Smokey) after Jacob was killed?

My biggest problem with Christian is that he didn't seem to pay any attention to Claire in the Church.

Or did I miss something?

I think the church thing was all about Jack. - like everyone set it up for him. like a surprise party or something.

Really? I'll have to rewatch it. ... that is, if I can think about the ending and Jack and ...damn. what's that dog's name ... without crying.
