Lets see a reference to ___________ obscure character!

I'm sure that'll please the main stream to no end. A minute long cameo by Andorian Ambassador Shras, or Grandpa Shran, or T'Pau...

Or how about lets show the scene where McCoy disconnects his dad from life support. Those five minutes would be totally worth it to the main stream viewer.

Or McCoy delivers his first Vulcan baby, a boy named Tuvok.

Or have a Cardassian Ambassador speaking peacefully with his Bajoran ally.

Or a red shirt named Reed.

Please folks, quit making threads with ridiculous requests. Star Trek is like a snake shredding it's old skin. The days of "fan-wank" are over, and good riddance. Lets hope for an entertaining film. If esoteric references to previously established plot points are what you're looking for, then you've got over 700 episodes and ten movies to check out. It's not as if your suggestions are being taken into consideration anyways. The script is done, and if someone was to come up with a brilliant idea, it won't happen.

As someone who really doesn't want any fanwanky stuff in there, this thread gets my seal of approval!

The one that bugs me the most (and I've said it before) is people who can't fathom a movie without Gary Mitchell. Like this guy who appeared in one episode is somehow integral to Kirk's character.

If so, Kirk must have been really broken up about his death to have never, ever mentioned him again.

Kirk already has two good buddies, get those relationships right and you'll find that not seeing Mitchell or the bride from 'Balance of Terror' won't be that big a deal.

I don't see any problem whatsoever. If they put in references to other characters, it's a win-win situation: those who do understand will appreciate it, and those who don't, won't care.

If Gary Mitchell, for instance, is in the film (IMHO, he should be), nobody who doesn't know who he is will give a crap anyway, so why *not* have him in there?

You've got to give these characters *some* names. Why could it possibly hurt to give them ones we recognize?

I would like to see Ben finey mistake as part of the story is on the Republic and it is just a cool little opening sene that people who have never seen Kirk before can get part of who he is while giving something to the hardcore fans

There's a writer's strike on. If it ain't in the script as of yesterday, it ain't gonna be...

DARN! I don't think I can enjoy the movie unless Ambassador T'Pol makes her cameo.

WHAT-EVER WILL I DO if I don't see blueprints to an "experimental" transwarp ship called Excelsior?

I think I'll have to walk right out of the theater if I don't see a Xindi sloth in starfleet!

I think I'll start a meetup group so like-minded people can discuss how we'll boycott the film if they don't show an early version of the USS Reliant.

Actually, from interviews with one of the writers (whichever one is the biggest Trek fan), it sounds like he has practically memorized a few of the Trek novels since he's read them so many times. It sounds to me like he's going to include a fair amount of "fan-wank," whether you like it or not.

And I'm sure the story will be quite accessible to both fans and non-fans.

Myself, I don't care so much whether we see a lot of the trivia.

But I suspect we will see quite a bit of the trivia, in a way that will not distract from the story, of course.

And it's perfectly natural for fans to talk about what they hope to see in the movie. I don't think many of those folks actually think their requests go from their lips to the writers' ears. Doesn't keep people from hoping, though.

Besides, what else are we going to do around here until we get more information? Talk about cock all day?

Since we know almost nothing about the film, what your post basically comes down to is "Don't talk about Star Trek XI in the Star Trek XI forum", which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

All I know is that Worf had better show up with no explanation whatsoever.

He can play Worf, father of Mogh, who was the father of Colonel Worf in The Undiscovered Country, who was in turn the father of Mogh, who was the father of Regular Worf of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the TNG films. :)

Anyway, I think we can all agree that, without McCoy delivering a baby Tuvok (great idea Matt!) while Tim Russ provides a voiceover of his first thoughts, this film will be terrible.

I like the Xindi Sloth idea. Only make is a female and a Yoeman and Kirk can do her slothy style on that weird looking bed, that has no sheets and every sleeps in their clothes on.

This movie will suck unless Phlox and his laywer are trying to divide his estate between the two wives he's divorcing and the one who he's separated from at the same time he's getting ready to marry Carol Marcus (you KNEW David was really half Denobulan, right?, Mrs. Tuvok, and the Enterprise's computer voice...deciding which one has to wait for the third divorce to go through.

Well, shit, there are, what, 100+ minor characters mentioned in TOS. let's refer to them all.

just TOS?!?! yeh, sure. If you want me to boycott!!!

There are hundreds of characters from TNG, DS9 and VOY, whose ancestors would be alive in this time period, and they should all be at least mentioned - i mean, it's only sensible right?
