Let's score how badly Riker did in Generations.

Now, Geordi on the other hand, both accidentally facilitates the surprise attack in the first place (though how much of that is down to Beverly clearing him for duty is questionable), and fails to keep engineering together or offer any alternative other than "We're screwed" once the s**t starts to hit the fan. He's clearly the one suffering from an epic case of 'Fail' here. :D ;)

Also let's not forget the bear thing.

What bear?

Lest we forget;

This topic feels familiar, but I'm going to repeat what I said in another thread:

In Riker's defense, NOBODY came out looking good in Generations.

Picard cries, Riker loses the Enterprise, Data turns into a sniveling wimp, Geordi gets tortured, Worf gets promoted and does nothing the rest of the movie, Troi does nothing, Crusher does nothing, the Enterprise gets wasted, Guinan talks about echoes and Kirk falls off a bridge and dies.

Wait! Troi does nothing? Isn't she the one who crashes the saucer ?

I am sorry. I don't remember the scene. What happened?

The bear gets left behind. Everybody else gets off the stardrive and onto the saucer except for the teddy bear.

Riker has got teddy's blood on his hands. ;)

I am sure I saw that but somehow it didn't register.

According to the DVD commentary, Ron Moore & Brannon Braga point out the bear was sentient, so Riker at least has stuffing on his hands.

To be completely fair, as Kinggodzillak said above, it's Geordi who leaves the bear behind. So Riker's even clear on that charge. ;)

Some would call that falling... with style...

Screw the bear. Where were that girl's parents?!

I would guess maybe at Battle Stations?

Troi managed to crash land a saucer section of a Galaxy-class starship in almost textbook like fashion. This as oppose to crashing and burning as would have happened if she wasn't flying the beast.

Yeah, it was smart using all those trees to slowdown the thing...:guffaw:

I'll admit, given that remodulating the shield harmonics was a standard piece of Treknobabble by this point, it's a shame they didn't include a line to cover why the crew didn't at least try this. To be fair, the crew probably assumed the Klingons somehow knew their shield frequency and would have adjusted their weapons to match anyway, but still, it's something they should've tried.

Ahh- dear God. Note to folks who don't know:

Any time a security officer's at the weapons station yells out, "Shields are at 40%!"etc. means they are REMODULATING THE SHIELD HARMONICS for another incoming attack. For the Enterprise to be damaged in THAT fashion means Worf was NOT doing his job. And what the hell Data's doing at this point??? He's supposed to be assisting Worf to compensate any damage happening. He's a super computer and has the typing speed of the Flash; it's the ships worst nightmare when your TOP STAFF are sleeping on the wheel.

Federation starships, at least in the 24th century, are relatively easy prey without their shields. The glass jaw of Starfleet. Ships like USS Defiant are designed to be able to survive being hit wthout their shields up, but most other starships are not.

Kind of contradicts the point in having a cloaking device, huh? The dumb writers of DS9 had to have their cake and eat it too. Lets forget everything that's established about ships having a cloaking device and do whatever we want. The Defiant had whatever it desired because it was the IT ship of the time. But when it was UPSTAGED by Enterprise E, Defiant had to look like every other vessel, getting their asses kicked, so the bad writer's new ship looked better.

USS Defiant wasn't designed with a cloaking device. It got one on loan from the Romulans so they could poke around the Gamma Quadrant for the Dominion. They could have put it only any ship, but Sisko wanted a ship that could survive longer than USS Odyssey, a Galaxy-class starship, did under Dominon fire. Federation shields were fairly useless against the Dominion at that time. Defiant's weapons as a warship proved enough to destroy Dominion ships were a Galaxy-class could not in the same amount of time. The cloak was to avoid having to fight while searching for the Founders. Otherwise you get the whole Dominion fleet chasing down one Federation starship, and even Defiant can't take that much punishement. As it was, they still got captured, but made it farther due to the cloak and toughness of USS Defiant. USS Enterprise-D was still in service at that time.

Mind you in First Contact, Defiant was taking far more punishment than any other ship in the fleet. Most ships seemed to explode as soon as the Borg fired on them. Enterprise was even newer and supposedly designed for this sort of fight (much like Defiant, but bigger) so its shields could take a hit from the Borg. Worf had likely been in teh thick of the fight the entire way from Typhon to Earth and Defiant shows damage when we first see it, before it gets hit again by the Borg. It still was holding up under a Borg beam before Enterprise saved it. Other starships we see under the same treatment blow up quickly.

Really if they were going into a known hostile situation (hostile ship, known dangerous individual, knew what his plan was) they should have separated before entering the system.

OH! So based on what YOU wrote, the DS9 staff writers... uh, didn't conceive the idea of the USS Defiant having a cloaking device??? It was because the Romulans loaned it to the crew of DS9??? LMAO!!! OH MY GOD!!!
