If there is one thing that us fanboys excel at, it's getting insanely excited over things we know absolutely nothing about and then getting disappointed because said thing didn't live up to the unachievable expectations in out heads. There are way too many examples of this so I won't go into it. But I can say that the upcoming LOST episode highlighting Richard Alpert (Hence known in this thread as "The Richard Episode") is a perfect example.
Dispite all the theories floated around the 'net, we know absolutely nothing about Richard. But because of all the theories, most of us have this idea of what Richard is supposed to be and assume that TPTB will be on the exact same wavelength. That is not the case of course. Predictably, when The Richard Episode does air, there will be tons of fanboy griping over the fact that the answers regarding Richard didn't sync up with theirs, thus a feeling of betrayal will ensue.
Look, I hope to help our little corner of the 'net by asking you, my fellow BBSers, not to overhype The Richard Episode in your heads. Will it be intriguing? Most likely. Will it propel the story? Sure. But I'm not foolish to think that it will answer all the questions. Heck, Richard may end up being just as enigmatic, if not moreso, as he has always been by the end of the episode. I just don't want the people who have been lukewarm to this season to look towards the Richard Episode as the saving grace of the season and then get disappointed when it's revealed to be just another small tile in the huge mosaic known as LOST.
