Lets invent the next big thing...

Me and my friend many years ago decided we were going to build a robot that could think like a Human, we were going to use a hard drive and use computer software to create a Human thinking machine brain and then plug it into the 'Androids' body.
You know, you frequently sound a lot like my full-of-shit cousin and me.

When we were 11.

That's where the "many years ago" comes into it :techman:

I have an idea:

make a walking robot. You can use the pvc tubes to create limbs, and you can engineer your own motorised hinge joints using some of that 1/2 x 1/8 inch steel stock that push fit the tubular limbs.

Once you have the body built, we can move onto adding some basic sensors, and help to write the control software to make it balance and walk.

I was thinking of a robot... but something that rolls because I have gears galore from a machine I dismantled.

I want someone to build a Johnny number 5.

...I got most of my "spare parts" from an old laser-eye correction unit. I have the laser tube and the pulse generator... and a half bottle of "laser mix" gas.

Naaah, better not. Last time I wielded that much power civilizations fell and religions were started in my name and Captain Robau bowed before me as my servant.

Sigh. :( I'm getting too old for this shit.

You should do as Tachyon says. But I don't think that level of AI is realistic at the moment. But I think we could make a number 2 type robot if we put our heads (and hands) together. :)

So how do we feel about a trekbbs engineering project?

Ok, where to begin? Obviously with a sketch to lay out the shape.

Can either of you open Sketchup files?

I suggest we watch the film or look at google images.

http://www.input-inc.com/gallery.html

Would it be feasible to clone the bot's outward appearance? At least approximately.

Consider dynamic stability, CoG, and weight distribution on the tracks.
Consider all of the joints on the torso, and how they extend arm reach.
Consider if the track footprint suitable for crossing uneven terrain.

*boggle* What are you some sort of engineer? This is starting to sound more like my day-job than a hobby! :guffaw:

Actually I help design custom machine solutions for a diverse array of customers. Last week it was a high-speed capping machine, this week was the high-speed hockey-stick taping machine.

But yeah.... I have Short Circuit on DVD I'll watch it again tonight if I have time.

I know what's relevant and important.

But yeah.... I have Short Circuit on DVD I'll watch it again tonight if I have time.

good.

And if anyone else wants to volunteer to be part of our engineering project, just holler. :bolian:

We need: people who have skill/experience/knowledge in software authoring, in kinematic control, sensor specialist, mechanical theory

Also, people who have any technical, scientific, mathematical, computational, or engineering skills, general problem solving skills, and artistic design skills, to volunteer as a consultant, or to participate more directly.

:p

That's me out then. :( Can't I just supervise from afar?

How about a JET-ENGINE powerd TOILET? it wouldn't use any water! just sucks the crap right out'ta there!
