Let's hope Wimbledon doesn't run over on Sunday

Was there any particular reason for that or they simply hadn't decided on the new actor at that point.

McCoy is is the only one of the classic era Doctor I can really remember anything being said about the casting (recall that was some concern as his main claim to fame before Doctor Who was a stage act involving ferrets).

Can any one remember how the news came out of the casting of McGann? Iirc it did get some bigger coverage because it was going to be a tv movie etc etc.

I remember that there had been a lot of speculation for some time as to who would play the Doctor for either an American movie or TV movie. I'm pretty sure it was a reasonably big deal when Paul was announced. I can't honestly remember where I first saw or read (could've been a national newspaper, TV or a genre/film magazine) it but I do remember a big interview with him and article on it in the Independent newspaper within a day or two of the announcement.

Well, when they switched to Pertwee, the show was more or less "re-launched." New Doctor, companion, new production staff, new visual format, new setting, everything. In the interests in getting everything ready, I suspect they held off on casting until they well and truly needed actors, and as yet showing off the new Doctor in the finale hadn't yet become traditional.

Well, Federer certainly satisfied my hopes. Now, will the Beeb pad out the tennis for the next couple of hours or go straight to Gallifrey?

I seem to recall the Capaldi announcement was streamed somewhere because that's how I remember watching it. Is that happening again this time?

I remember there was an hour long special to announce Capaldi and BBC America picked it up.

My excuse for missing the Smith announcement isn't much better: I was in the Navy and stationed on a ship in Japan. I don't remember when exactly the announcement occurred, but if it was during the same timeframe as now, we would have been underway at sea. I can't imagine trying to explain to my superiors why I couldn't work for an hour.

Jodie Whittaker it is!!!
Humm, not really familiar with her. Anyone know her work? I watched Attack of the Block but cannot remember her clearly.

So female Doctor then. Wonder if the BBC pushed this role to be female or was it all the producers decision? Should be a very interesting season next year.

But seriously. What the F**k!..............No ginger?!!! That's just discrimination.

Well the fans have certainly been asking for it since at least before Matt Smith was announced and it seems as if they've been incrementally testing the waters for years now with the likes of River, Missy, The General and I suppose The Doctor Donner (bit of a stretch?) I think this was a long time coming.

Part of me wishes they'd done this sooner, but at the same time I think it's best for it to happen when there's a changing of the guard behind camera as well.
